BASKET BALL W' Dwgous Lost Hutchinson,s Blue Dragons ended their basketball season with a 16-7 record. They tied for second place V9 with Garden City in the league standing. .ag Hutchinsonas Blue Dragons hopped to an early lead and continued to run the Garden City Broncbusters by a score of 85-66, February 7, in the Sports Arena. The Broncbusters entered the game with a 11-2 record in conference play and needed a win to stay in conten- tion for the title. Gary Davidson and Dick Myers led Hutchinson scores with 19 points each. The Arkansas City Tigers gave the Blue Dragonsfa tough fight, February 14, but the Dragons came back beating the Tigers 74-66 at Ark City. Dick Myers was the big run for Hutchinson, hitting 21 points. Dodge City's Conquistadors rallied a terrific victory, March 21 in the Sports . LOCKMAN PLAYERS W with PM Mike Moran, as the Lion, and jerry Battey, as Androcles, pose during rehearsals. Gladiators, Rocky Johnson and Vernon Reeves, practice dueling for the play. The drama department arrayed themselves with thongs, sandals, and togas to present Androcles and the Lion by George Bernard Shaw on March 5, 6, and 7. The cast consisted of seven women and sixteen men, plus numer- ous others behind the scenes. The unusual lion was portrayed by Mike Moran. The lead part of Androcles was played by jerry Battey, and his wife, Megeara by Kathie Pulver. Captain of the Roman army was Eric Struxness and Lavina was Betty Bockhaus. Ferrovius was portrayed by Larry McMullen, Spintho, by Roger Heppenstall and Caesar by Rodger Woodruff. In other roles were Stacy Morris, editor, Steve Ceide- burg, keeper, Clayton Chapman, Centurion, Dave Wil- kens, Lentulus, Donna Henry, Mettia, Vernon Reeves, secutor, Rocky Johnson, Retiarius, and Lenny Gabel, Lois Regehr and Kim Moran as Christian women. Guards were Frank Stanfield and Charles Fry, heralds, Mary and Jean Moran. Caesar, Rodger Woodriff and the Lion meet on the marble steps of Rome. H

The Blue Dragons raced off to a good start against Dodge City, but ended in defeat, 87-72, at the Sports Arena, February 21. Again it was steady Dick Myers who led Hutchinson with 23 points, the only Dragon to get in double figures. On February 25, El Dorado met the Blue Dragons in the Arena. Hutch scored a 81-75 victory over El Dorado. Ed Tucker was high scorer with 18 points. Pratt junior College lost to the Blue Dragons, February 28, at the Sports Arena. Final score was 107-77 with Ed Tucker totaling 30 points. Dodge City's Conquistadores won the Jayhawk juco western division regional title, March 4, at Garden City and the right to play Coffeyville for a berth in the na- tional tourney. The Blue Dragons took third place in the sub-regional defeating El Dorado, 81-75. Carden City's Broncbusters whacked the Dragons 69- 57 in the first round game. After beating Hutchinson, Garden City met Dodge City. The Conquistadors downed the Broncbusters 78-67. Dodge City beat Butler County of El Dorado in its first round game, 74-58. The Dodge City Conquistadores defeated the Coffey- ville Ravens two games out of three to represent Kansas in the National Tournament in Hutchinson, March 17-21. Bringing the National junior College Championship to Kansas for the third straight year, Dodge City defeated Casper, Wyo., 73-68. Third place honors went to Bacone College, Muskogee, Okla., fourth place to Burlington, Iowa. for the second straight year, fifth place to Leicester, Mass., sixth place to Trenton, NJ., seventh place to Lon Morrishlackson- ville, Tex., and eighth place to Centralia, Ill. The 1964 player of the year award went to Mickey Hartsburg of Casper. Coach Chuck Brehm, Dodge City was named 1964 Coach of the Year. The All-Tournament Team included Carl Head, Dodge City, Kan., Jim Cornwall, Trenton, NJ., James Boyce, Burlington, Iowa, Wayne Ballard, Lon Morris ofxlacksonville, Tex., Harold Aldridge, Bacone of Muskogee, Okla. Second row: Tom Quinn, Leicester, Blass., Fred Lewis, Eastern Arizona of Thatcher, Ariz., Mickey Hartsburg, Casper. W'yo., Donald Duncan, Cen- tralia, Ill., and not pictured Austin Robbins, Chipola of Marianna, Fla.
