In our society which grows more complex year by year, the junior college is playing a greater role than ever before. One out of every four students in America today begins his college education in a junior college. The junior college, as a fonn of higher educa- tion, has a two-fold purpose: lj it is a college par- allel, and Qj it has vocational education facili- ties both for young students and for adults wish- ing to gain more specialized training close to home. The junior college is unique in that it houses both a college preparatory program and a voca- tional program which meets the needs of adults and younger students not planning to go on to a four-year school. And Hutchinson Junior College, as the largest junior college in Kansas, is an example of the im- portant part the junior college is playing in Amer- ican Education today. l'l john Anderson, Governor of Kansas John Anderso Governor of Kansas Clifford A. Busick, County Commission I firmly believe the junior College is the best way in which the students of this com- munity can economically further their ed- ucation. I am very proud of the fact that Hutch- inson and Reno County has such a Junior College. D Sincerely yours, Clifford A. Busick Chairman, County Commission 4

No institution in Hutchinson is of greater val- ue to our community than our Junior College. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world but does not have KNOWLEDGE. When it comes to education, people are di- vided into two groups, those who realize its value and those who don't. If a person understands how education opens the way to opportunity, he may suspect its worth. But if a person also understands how the lack of.an education bars the way to opportunity, he is certain to know its worth. The Hutchinson Junior College is a real asset to people of all ages in this area. It is Aladdin's Lamp in our own back yard waiting to be dis- covered by some, and to all it is another source of that extra usomethingl' that makes this coun- try a better place in which to live. Respectfully, Henry W. Thiessen Dean A. H. Elland Mayor Henry W. Thiessen The Hutchinson Junior College is proud of its many fine achievements. As our enrollment exceeds the thousand mark, new services are needed. Dreams of additional space have been formulated into plans and this has resulted in the starting of a building program. By the use of student funds through revenue bonds, a stu- dent union is being constructed on our main campus. A dormitory is also approaching com- pletion on our newly acquired site just north of the old campus. As the college continues to serve the commu- nity and the state, it is gratifying to see one phase of the needed building program taking concrete form. We now dream of the time when tax funds will make possible the addition of needed academic facilities. Dean A. H. Elland
