DEDICATEE Brewer Given Recognihon A dedicatee is a person honored by a group be- cause he has done something to merit that honor. He has the respect and admiration of others be- cause he is a warm, understanding person who conducts himself with decorum and makes a con- tribution to the school. Besides possessing these qualities, a dedicatee must have something extra. Mr. Joseph E. Brewer has this something extra. He is willing to go be- yond the formal limits of the classroom to give personal assistance to students. For these reasons - and others - Mr. Brewer, We are pleased to dedicate the 1963 Dragon's Tale to you. 7

Mary Beth Young, Editor We have chosen for the 1963 Dragon's Tale the theme All Roads Lead to Hutchinson? Our school is no longer a local junior college, we have students from 17 states and 4 countries. In fact, only 677i of the 1962-63 enrollment comes from Hutchinson or Reno County. The students follow the roads that lead to Hutchinson. Hutchinson Junior College has been, for many of those who have attended, the beginning of suc- cessful and prominent professions. Its outstanding record of successful transfers has gained recogni- tion for Juco in all Kansas four-year schools and in numerous out-of-state institutions. As a mat- ter of fact, 75-8071 of all Juco graduates in the past have transferred to senior colleges. That this decade has been one of advancement for our junior college has been proved by an en- rollment which is double that of the Fall of 1955. The teaching staff and the number of subjects of- fered have also increased, adjusting to the in- creased demands on the college. There were 54 faculty members in 1962-63 as compared to 21 in 1955. The Era of the Junior College has begun, a fact proved by the increased attention being paid to the role of the junior college by both the state leg- islators and the public. Proof of the importance of junior colleges is the county-wide Board of Regents recently organized to work with the city school board to determine junior college policy. Roads which lead to a place must inevitably lead from that place. It is our hope and our belief that those who choose to take the road to Hut- chinson Junior College and higher education take something worthwhile away with them when they leave, that the knowledge they have gained, the friends they have made, and the academic achievements which they have attained during their stay will prove valuable to them. And be- cause its alumni make contributions to society, so does Hutchinson junior College. Mary Beth Young Editor
