Gardonier Clem Club Every Thursday atternoon after school the Chess Club meets to teach its members the tun- damentals of chess. During the year the Chess Club participated in competitive tournaments with other high schools. These contests, under the auspices of the Queen City Chess Club, award the Chess Championship to the team with the best record. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our faculty advisor, Mr. Clow, for his invaluable assistance, guidance, and interest in the club.

im, Club Sigma Phi Sigma, known to many as the Tech Chemistry Club, was formed for the purpose of extending the abilities of all students interested in chemistry - especially those phases of chem- istry related to chemical engineering. Our program forthe year has been varied. Plant trips, lectures, demonstrations and club proiects were included to suit the particular interests of each of our members. The advanced work was especially beneficial to the seniors in that it acquainted them with dif- ferent areas of employment in the various fields of chemistry. Debaih The subiect for debate this year is - Resolv- ed: That the British system of education is pre- ferable to that ofthe United States. The debate team is made up ofthe following students: Affirmative Team Negative Team Paul Hoebel Chester Palys Richard Killian Gary Kale Daniel Palazewslci Edward Nagel Frank Mariani James Miller The Debate Society is an organization primar- ily designed for inter-high competition. Each spring the 5 academic high schools and Tech de- bate for the coveted New York University Cup. This season the Tech Affirmative Team will compete with Grover Cleveland High and the Nega- tiveTeam with Kensington High. Both of ourteams have striven for a possible 3rd victory with the hope of obtaining permanent possession of the New York University Cup. Whatever the outcome of the contest, the expert guidance of Dr. Stein has made it possible for each ofthe debaters to gain invaluable experience for leadership in later life.
