w X icafion Rarely do we have two teachers who have given such faithful service in the same school. Mr. J. Alfons Schieb started in the Science Department at Technical High School in 1919, and Miss Gwendolyn Price in the Social Science in 1924. Since their marriage both have devoted many hours of faithful service in the extra duties that alert faculty members find and solve. Each has provided many extra helps for their students and have ventured far beyond the normal limits of the subiect in order that students not only pass their subiects but find pleasure, delight and acquire a great fund of knowledge in that particular field of knowledge. Now in their retirement may they continue to find rest and recreation to the same full measure of enjoyment that made their stay at Technical so profitable for all of us. Mr. Sam Block, a teacher of social studies at H-C Technical High School, has left us in order to accept the position of Assistant Principal at School 38. Mr. Block was a teacher at Tech in the old building on Cedar Street and then left us for several years to teach elementary school children. Mr. Samuel Block Since his return to Tech Mr. Block has been active in debate work and an the staff of the Techtonian. We shall miss Sam very much and in many ways. He was always willing to give help where help was needed, be it to individ- ual students or for the benefit of the school as a whole. Mr. Block, we wish you every possible success and advancement in your new assignment as an Elementary School Administrator. acuity Matthew Banos Homer C Brooks G eLavns Arthur W ,W mf E ADVERTISING AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN DRAFTING AND DESIGN JohnJ Galvnn Harold H Hoeffler John W Loth Albert E Pape Clarence P Robertson Wnlllam Freer Howard W Schwenk Charles W Mnllndge MumerM Wnldey ENGLISH AND MODERN LANGUAGES C Dons Benham Joseph Murphy Julna C Murray Marnan Schraven Alnce Snvertson Charolette A Smlth Dorothy S Ernsmann Clutton R Sanders Mary Smnth Loretta C Kurk wood Mnldred G Donovan GUIDANCE Arthur P Kremer Robert W Schrott MATHEMATICS Aaron Buchman Edmund Clow Graoe Druar Herman El son Gertrude Lander Carl Nansh Nicholas Pelosn Jr Samuel Brenner METAL SHOP Wllllam A Krueger Telles Rousselle John Schelhamer Robert L Strunk PHYSICAL EDUCATION Edward Gottsch Albert Haas Joseph Sweeney Ernest Wltmer Hessmger Kenneth Langworthy C nn Carl Roesch Alfons Schneb Ernest Zeferlahn Constance E Kogel Aluce Ulnch Joseph C Pnleru Wnlluam Block SOCIAL SCIENCE Anna T Brooks Florence Meyer Gwendolyn Schueb Mal WOOD SHOP Frank Boggan Wllllam Daubert Thaddeus May Edward Pecora LIBRARIAN Anme M Davis MUSIC Norman J Vester SPEECH Elsa E Dmsmore SECRETARIES Mrs Frances Maul Mass Margaret McAllnster FOUNDRY SHOP Herbert Benson PLACEMENT Eugene W Boller NURSE Jean Nowak CAFETERIA MANAGER Mass Rose Bellamo CHIEF ENGINEER CUSTODION Norman Bernbeck A lt i f, P F ' I It I I , NC ,A 'ki X K , L I - rf l V l 1 . Early in the school year work begins toward production of the yearbook. The layout of the Techtonian from idea to completion must be worked out before February. The art and production staff does the cover design, cartoons, and all page layouts, all of which is finished art ready for reproduction. In addition, they schedule the senior and roll call photographs, and handle the sports and special-events, which they photograph themselves. The staff, composed of senior Advertising Art students, conforms to a tight schedule, for the yearbook is extracurricular work, yet it must be done. Our sincere thanks goes to our advisor, Mr. Gentsch, for his guidance in producing this Techtonian. 5 wi G L. ff 1958 'SAYS ax WWF Wu 'assi f xx 15 Nowakowskl Walter Chapman Charles vt IX ifcgixv .10 1r3xX' A A Schelb Robert Braclszewskl Robert The yearbook editorial staff has given much time and eftort to the preparation of our l958 Techtonian Yearbook. The boys have done all the typing and proof read- ing, in addition many ot the articles were also composed by them. Without their fine co-operation our Yearbook would not have been possible. Day after day the boys spent their free time in the little office on the second floor. lt one listened carefully, he might hear the click-clocking ot the typewriters, and it he ven- tured inside the door, he might notice three or four boys sitting together and very meth- odically analyzing a write-up sheet to cor- rect any errors. Last year, a group of Tech Explorers guided by Mr. Freer and Mr. Murphy visited the Naval Air Sta- tion ot Quonset Point, Rhode Island. It was a very worthwhile experience for scouts and advisors alike. This year the boys are looking forward to another trip. We are sure that this will be another great year for our explorers. Dr. Kuehn, our fine principal, as well as Mr. Richard- son of the Buttalo Area Boy Scout Council, are to be commended for their work in developing this pro- gram. The purpose of the Student Council is to increase school spirit, create better teacher-student relations, and gain greater loyalty for Tech from its students. This year the student council has, as before, formed many projects to help make Tech a better school. There are cafeteria monitors on duty to insure good order. We have also formed a monitoring system for winter sports to keep order in the halls during basket- ball games and swimming meets. Again this year our student council is a member of the National Association of Student Councils to insure o steady influx of new ideas for the coming year. Our Council has co-oper- ated with the Inter-High School Student Council in pro- moting the better dress program and better conduct recommendations. Plans for the coming term are varied. This left a working time of only two months to meet the deadline. For this proiect about 50 students offered their services. The selling of advertisements is a job that requires initiative, tact and a pleasant appearance. The job is by no means as glamorous as sports. However, the experience gained in the endeavor is invaluable. This year as usual, the Techtonian Yearbook had patron name listings. With the wonderful co-opera- tion shown by the class presidents, student council representatives and the student body, the proiect was highly successful. It has been proposed that all members engaged in the undertaking meet and elect officers for next year's campaign in an effort to top this year's mark. Here at Tech, the editors and staff of 'The Engineer' have striven to accomplish both of these aims by providing a complete coverage of school happenings combined delightfully with spiced gossip, iokes, and social features. With an ambitious staff and o willing student body, the school paper, 1957-l958, should be built into a powerful, influen- tial, and enlightening source of student communica- tion. The Jets have accomplished much in this first year. In a Jets assembly an engineer from Westinghouse in- formed students of the status of today's engineer. Jets members were privileged to hear a lecture-slide demonstration by Col. Hunt of the St. Lawrence Sea- way Proiect. The Jets were invited to a meeting of Automotive Engineers. Members took part in a national meeting of delegates from over 200 Jets clubs. The Jets have gone on plant tours, viewed educational films, talked with engineers, begun a technical library, researched scientific and technical topics, and practical work projects. Freshmen or sophomores who have not as yet ioined the Jets should plan proiects before school begins next September so that they may start then when they become members. Technical high school. Over the years, the bowling club has had repeated applications and acceptance of ad- ditional teams. There are three players on each team plus an alternate. This year we have twenty four active competing teams with hopes for an increase in the near future. Mr. Hoeffler, our faculty advisor, has encouraged the clubs development, good sportsmanship, and need- less to say, good bowling. Mr. Hoeffler devotes his own time after school for individual as well as group instruction. We hope soon to be able to organize definite plans for interscholastic competition. However this proiect involves a little red tape and a lot of hard work. All in all, we feel that the bowling club has not only provided for the development of new friendships, but it also has the advantage of teaching determination through play. This affiliation enabled the club to receive six Rem- ington 5l3-T Rangemaster target rifles from the Director of Civilian Marksmanship, Department of the Army. This year, the Rifle Club has formed its first rifle team for competition in the Niagara Frontier Junior Rifle League, thus giving the boys a chance to compete with other teams. Tau Epsilon Sigma, better known as the Tech Elec- V trical Society, was founded in 1922 and has steadily grown to be one of the most active organizations in Tech. At the beginning of the year we held a tour through the Dunlop Rubber Corporation's Tonawanda plant. This trip proved to be of great interest to all members. We also held a highly successful dinner party and dance on Thanksgiving eve, to allow the new mem- bers to become acquainted with the society. ln the spring the society has many activities planned. In addition to our annual assembly program and offi- cer installation banquet, we have planned a tour through Mertens Chocolate Company, New York Tele- phone Exchange, and an overnight camp-out at Toad Hollow. Mr. Roesch, our faculty advisor, held an annual Christmas party at his home which is one of the high points of the season.
