In an attempt to do our share in the war efforts we have assisted in the sales of war bonds and stamps in the studyrooms. A substantial amount of our funds was set aside from dues to further the establishment of our scholarship fund. We also pur- chased a telephone table and mirror for the Council Room, where members may go to study during their free periods. We have sponsored two successful skating parties this year. H. Panayiotou, H. Ryer, S. Panayiotou. Debate Two tlmel to ics were debated this year-government subsidized housing and public ,junior colleges for ew ork State. In the first term both Hutchinson teams lost by a 7 to 8 decision, the negative to Lafayette High School and the affirmative to Fosdick Masten Park High School. In the spring debates, Hutchinson lost to Grover Cleveland with a score of 5 to 10, and won over Kensington 11 to 4. The debaters, several of whom are sophomores and juniors, have developed reasoning ability, ease in speaking, and are looking forward to next year's debates. The Girls mall Council The desired goal of every member of the Girls Small Council is to serve Hutchinson-Central High School in every way that she can. Under the experienced, able, sympathetic guidance of Mrs. Edith Lankler, our adviser, we have tried to live up to this aim in every way. The executive group is known as the Small Council. It consists of 21 members-the chairmen of the various committees and the elected officers. This year's leaders are as follows: Angeline Canale, presidentg Louise Heinz, vice president, Ann Mc Crillis, secretaryg Caliope Panayiotou, treasurer, Geraldine Lewis, recorder, and Madeline Di F iglia, corresponding secretary. A The Large Council which consists of approximately 300 members assumes many duties throu hout the school. We strive to maintain order in the lunchroom, on the stairways, in the halls. in the lilrrary and in the office. Girls on the Large Council volunteer their services, as they fully realize that to receive anything valuable from their education they must learn to serve. One project we sponsored this year was the knitting of an afghan for the Red Cross. We feel that the council has done excellent work and know it can be depended upon to continue with as willing a group of girls next fall. Calendar Financial Board Long before work was begun on the Calendar nine efficient seniors were chosen by their study- room teachers to serve on the Financial Board. Their duty was to collect, from resources previously f planned and tentatively budgeted, the amount of money necessary to publish the fiftieth anniversary yearbook. Miss Erb appointed Adele Gichtin, Adelle Kauffman, and Betty Jane DeWeese. Miss Pierce chose Jerry Catalano, Thomas Edwards and Edward Posluszny. Miss Carman selected Margaret Lukacovic, Dorothy O'Sullivan, and Rose Marie Cardulla. Adele Gichtin was elected Chairman of the hoard and all collections and accounts were handled entirely by her. The Calendar Staff has worked diligently in order to publish a fiftieth anniversary yearbook commanding admiration and attention. We have accomplished this through the cooperation of the senior class and school organizations which help sponsor the book. We deeply thank the faculty and students who have so willingly contributed their ideas, time, and talent. We especially wish to extend our sincerest thanks to Miss Helen Cornell, our adviser, who has so skillfully guided us and without whom this publication would not have been possible. We are accorded the greatest pleasure in presenting the 1942 Calendar to you for your enjoyment.
