When worries and cares that the future holds Bring age and regret to our brow We'll come back in fancy to dear days of old, And try to be happy as now The school we love We'll cherish your To us you'l1 be so Our hearts are sad so dear love as the years may flee near as we say good bye, To our friends of Hutcheson High But we'l1 remember thee as we cry, A a Mater, nGood bye CLASS PUEM To us Dear Hutcheson, you've been a friend Our memories of you will never end You gave to us the gift of knowledge, To aid us if we go to college, We have come a long way up the hill of progress At the top we are hoping to find success We have reached a goal, And are ambitious still with your gift of knowledge We can go into a broader field The memory of you will never cease, To fill our hearts with love for thee The thoughts of you shall with us always be A true companion Happy memory Leaving without the forecast of what time will do Remember Dear Hutcheson, we are thankful to you Barbara Scudders Motto nYesterday is past, Tomorrow is ahead, only today is ours Class Flower White Roses Class Color Gold and Blue PEKCEPEKCEEESFE 9 lm - .ll Jacquelyn Copeland CLASS HISTURY As we boarded our ship of knowledge in 1951, we had a crew of thirty three members on board The crew was permitted to form an or ganization of its own Under the guidance of our Captain,' Mrs M D Stafford, we elected the following officers to direct us on the voyages of 1951 52 President Carrie Lou Garmon Vice President Elizabeth Williams Secretary Jacquelyn Copeland Assistant Secretary Catherine Dorsey Treasurer Naomi Welch We made many sto s on this vo age, in many strange lands Some of our crew who were 'land lubbers left our ship to reside in those far away places In our freshman year, 1952 53, we had gained enough crewmen back to have on board forty five members After a year at sea, in one of those far away places, at a world famous dock, the freshman boys became interested in a strange, new ex ercise called basketball They became so interested in the game that they have played it on all our voyages There were a few casualties during the year of 1952 53 Several incidents occured in the science room Some one mixed the wrong in gradients for an experiment and caused a small explosion Aside from scarched eyebrows, holes burned in clothing, and some awful smells no harm was done board the vessel But as we launched our ship at the dock of diffi culty we noticed that twenty members of our previous voyages had be came sea sick and turned back Our captain this term was Mrs J E Stewart We explored the depths of the blue and discovered many in teresting things in our Biology class We had cruised over the water and a year had passed since we were in class ten we are now on our eleventh voyage During a storm at sea we lost three of our crew members But af ter that sorrow had passed, a joyous event took place on deck That wonderful event we had looked forward to with anticipation all through the voyages was the Junior Senior Prom We all came on deck with beautiful gowns and elegant tuxedos Most of us came with members of our own crew, but some got members from other parts for escorts At the end of these voyages a terrible disaster befell us Al though it was investigated by our benevolent captains and intended to prove of lasting benefit to us We suffered greatly Many of our youth were retarded a year by it, and a few who became permantly dis abled by this tragedy left us forever This disaster was called nFinal Examinations and ranked as one of the worse massacres of our entire voyage We have come to our twelfth and last voyage with twenty members on board We have Bobbie J Scudders at the head of the crew, as President Nancy Miller, second in com and as Vice President, Addie Pearl Scales to do the recording as Secretary, and Naomi Welch, who holds the finance as Treasurer This year we are finding many interesting and varied adventures As we look far our at sea, we see a wonderful day, graduation Just beyond that we see boys and girls our ages taking their places in the world, shoulderlng the responsibilities of men and women Q l . n I I-O P X ' In 1953-5h our ship was in class ten. We had twenty-five men a- We cannot help but wonder if we are r ady Nevertheless, we en courage all of you still on board to not falter, be strong, keep work ing toward your goals, and someday, very soon you will be able to see what we have seen To our parents, relatives, teacher, friends and all of those who helped us to complete this voyage, we, the class of 1956, shall ever be grateful Jacquelyn Copeland CLASS PRUPHECY Looking into my souvenir box a few days ago, I came across an old Egyptian crystal ball, that I had bought from an antique shop Suddenly the ball Degan to glitter which attracted my attention I gazed into it, and I could see clearly into the future I saw a huge gymnasium located in Oklahoma City, Okla Inside this gymnasium a basketball game was taking place I could not be lieve my eyes It was the 'Harlem Globetrotters, and Lee Edward Bowens and Costell Endsley, two of my classmates were playing on the team A player fell and the crowd gathered around The player was taken to a hospital where I saw two of my classmates that had b come nurses To my surprise they were Nurse Parker, known to u s Daisy Pounds, and Nurse Nancy Miller The scene changed and carried me to a Florida Naval Base Busy special mission by the United states Navy Suddenly from a distance I heard church bells ringing, and the scene carried me to a large church pastored by Reverend Charles Styles I saw Jacquelyn Copeland, a stenographer for the president of a business firm, and Naomi Welch, who was teaching at one of the elementary schools in the city The service came to an end and the congregation filed slowly out of the church Following the congregation, I was taken farther down the street where I saw the sign over a barber shop that read Dan Smith's Barbershop I was hoping the ball would carry me inside of Dan's shop, but the picture changed and I saw Dr Lee Ella Sparks examining a baby, with Nurse Alice Shell and Head Nurse Dorothy Bowens assisting her. The scene became noisy and then I saw a Jet By the plane stood Marvin Springer, who had become a pilot The airplane was being re paired by twowell knownmechanlcs Joe L Cowins and Ellis L Love, Jr A cloud blotted out the scene and when it cleared I was looking in a large room, empty but for two people and a grand piano A small boy with sticky fingers was trying to play exercise number Thirteen, and his teacher, gritting her teeth to keep from spanking him was counting one two, three, one, two, three At last she swept the child off the stool and played the exercise for him She was Addie Pearl Scales who had become a famous pianist and music instructor Then I was taken to a beautiful college town There I saw a vast crowd in the chapel. It seemed as if a graduation exercise was takihg place I looked among the graduates hoping to see some of my high school classmates To my surprise I saw Barbara Jean Scudders, who was about to receive a Bachelor of Science degree The scene shifted to the business district of a large city I was looking at a huge electric sign which read White, Parker and Bridges, Inc I saw the owners coming from their office. They were Bobby Parker and Leanord Bridges and Robert White. . . .1 ' . 6- , s a typing was Sadie Springer, a Naval Captain, who had been called on a 0 I O l The sun set and the light gradually faded, a purple haze cover- ed every thing The crystal became cloudy and I saw no more Barbara J Scudders CLASS WILL We, the Senior class of 1956, of Hutcheson High School, city of Douglasville, County of Douglas, and State of Georgia, being of legal age, sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this our last will and testament To our School, we leave Best wishes and hope for success in all your undertakings through the future years Addie Pearl Scales wills to Vergie Campbell her ability to cook and sew Barbara Jean :nudders wills to Charles Danley her ability to draw Bobby Parker bequeaths to James Vance his ability to tell the best jokes Naomi Welch leaves to Elnora delch tips on how to talk Daisy Pounds bequeaths to Joan Zachary the inside information on how to get a streamlined figure To Mildred Kemp, Jacquelyn Copeland wills her ability of start ing an argument 'How To Sing' is the title of the booklet Lee Ella Sparks be Dan Smith wills to Joe Louis Parker his ability to draw To Zell Ann Arnold, Alice Shell leaves tips on how to clean the Homemaking Room, Joe Louis Cowins bequeaths to Robert Reid three inches of his height.
