' i Energettcally and ambxtlously we moved 1nto the Jolly Junror Bracket wrth Mrs Jessre l-locker as home room teacher and sponsor of our mtnstrel Cotton Blossoms Ably assrsung her rn thrs was our new and efflcrent musrc teacher Mrs Anna Short Another new face on the faculty was Mrs Collett1eG Jameswho not only rnstructed us 1n English but arded rn art composed and taught yells to the Pep Club and cheerleaders fboth of whrch she was sponsorj Our once Lrttle Txgers June Downey Jrmmy Holtzclaw Ernest and Gene Martm James Wyatt Combest and James Brownrng were now powerful Txgers whom we backed w1th steam Before tlus successful season was over we had managed to convert a Crab Orchard Cub rnto a frghnng Blue and Whrte '1'1ger We were proud to be host to L1ncoln Countarns wlth a falr 1n whlch Hustonvrlle was champron rn rrbbon pomts Our class was proud of the faculty s chorce of our blonde LOUISE Ferrell 35 Hustonvrlle s representatrve rn the L1ncoln County Beauty Contest We took the 1951 Semors to Mammoth Cave and were chaperoned by Coach Doyle McGuffey and Mrs Hocker On a golden autumnal day 51 our 32 senrors were rounded up tn the Semor Home Room w1th Mrs Collette G James our Englrsh rnstructor as class sponsor 1-lavmg been awakened to the many responsrblhtres of berng semors we frrst set to work on annual dunes as dtrected by our chosen yearbook sponsor Mrs James who so patxently labored by our srde leven holdrng on when the best of hs had gxven upj 111 ad selllng Chrxstmas card sales paper dnves food sales pre suppers popping corn proof readmg correcting mrs takes and other annual headaches Ttme rushed on and day by day we were busldmg on the fund we mst cleared 330 on selhng chances on aS5 b1ll Mrs James gave to the annual fund Then our ever backing and lnterested Prxncrpal Mr Purdom perrrutted our selling popcorn at the home games to lncrease the fund After school we lourneyed here and there gettlng flrms to sponsor pages Our smcere thanks go Mrs Dorothy Chelf Lunch Room Executrve who assrsted rn getting busmesses sellrng to the Lunch Room to sponsor pages Trme rushed on and we found ourselves entenng the 46th Drstnct Tournament amrd roarlng cheers from a hrgh spmted red hot pep club led by an addmonal face from our class, Jean Carol Bowles Bemg proud of all our Semor Trgers , especrally Captam June Downey who rated 3rd on the 46th All Dxstnct Team and after havmg lost only 5 season games we walked out wrth heads hrgh after bowrng to powerful Memonal Cas drd all other theams they met rn that tournamentj Our play, ably coached by Mrss Katherxne Cordrer was a success and our tnp was wonderful for whrch we say Thanks so much, Jumors and Mr Charles Bryant for the pleasure II brought and memorres fMr Bryant was the only new faculty member our semor year J We are truly grateful to Mrs Anme West who has labored wrth us all through hrgh school and ably directed our Class Nlght Program Commencement calls and we must say farewell to dear old Hustonvllle Hrgh teachers and Prmcrpal Purdom all of whom we love an owe a deep debt of gratitude We wrsh all who have been so lund to us success that wluch we must be luexng to Scratch for 15 Ellzabeth Russell Historian
