Preparation for homecoming began many days before the game with Lester, Elvin, and Bob gathering loads of paper, wood, and anything else that would burn for the big bonfire Thursday night. Excitement ran high all around school as the classes worked on the floats for the big parade. The senior boys made ahasty trip into the country and came beck with an antique bath tub. Senior girls dressed in white proceeded to clesn up Johnson's Creek and the rest of the school too. They won first prize. The Junior Hot Foot smoked its way down the street, original and highly decorative. Hustisford came out on the short end of the score but even that set back didn't dampen the spirits of the merrymalcers who danced all evening to the music played by the Three llusketeers. A. put on its usual winter carnival. The evening started with a program in the assembly starring Donna Mae Seegert, Uncle Louie and his Hungry Seven, and a tap dance by Elna Mae Roeseler. The star of the show, Miss Elvin Will, gave the audience a thrill singing nI'm the Lonesomest Gal in Townn. The usual baked goods, fancy work and white elephants were sold. De- corated booths attracted many customers. There was ice cream, cake and beefburgers for the hungry ones and the evening ended with the crowning of the King and Queen, Lester Zubke and Carole Roeseler. Her Court of Honor were Frank Gasper and Mary Jane Schuett, Duane Roeseler and Arlene Petenman, Gordon Kettner and Jean Falkenthal, Donald Key and Evona Schultz. The Crown bearer was Eleanore Lehmann, The Queen drew names for the boxes of groceries and one lucky person won a fine blanket. 5 Am an llelwwd Ln w-ifh Musa: Back How: Geraldine Falkenthal, Hildegarde Drachenberg, Dolores Key, Ardis Holz. He attended the Lake Geneva High School and played basketball and football. Then Uncle Sam took a hand in Mr. Griswolds life and for a little over three years he served with the United States Navy as a Hadioman, second class. He saw active duty in the Pacific near New Guinea, the Phillipines and Australia. When he returned from service he enrolled at State Teachers College at Whitewater and married Mary Ann Disch. During his college career he played basketball on the college five. He majored in Commercial and has a minor in Social science and English. The Griswolds have a young son, Jeffrey Bruce, who is nearly a year old, and according to Coach, no cats or dogs. The first year of coaching has been a happy ex- perience for Coach Griswold. His football team finished second in the WMadison Subur- ban conferenfel. The basketball season, was better than we had hoped considering the handicap of not having an adequate place for practice. Although the group was not very active the first part of this year the program which has been outlined for them for the remaining portion of this year should give them plenty to do. At H. H. S. practically every student Dmthe school spends three periods a week singing. Practice for operettas, concerts, and contests take up much of the time but the part we all will always remember is the old song feats, with everyone wanting his favorite tune. Popular songs had their place of course, but again and again requests for old favorites cropped up ......... 'Alexan- der's Rag Time Bandn, 'The Erie Canal', and WCareless Loven. After school in the afternoon Mr. J. can usually be found in the assembly. The librarians do desk duty to classical and ragtime music while students and teachers enjoy the melodies as they fill the assembly and spill out into the corridors of the whole school. Music comes first with lr. Johnson but he's our mainstay when it comes to dressing up the stage and recrea- tion room. lhen he starts splashing around in water paints, the results are amazing. Our 'cracker box stage' takes on the size and glamour under his magic touch. Keyufalt week Another year has rolled around and we find our school board busier than ever with plans for the future. In the spring the voters of ten sur- rounding districts, including our own, voted to fornlareorganized district. Members of the various districts in- cluded formed an advisory com ittee which has held several meetings to make plans for the coming year. In June 1951 a school board will be elected representing the entire district. Now the hope of broader, better educational facilities for the entire new district seems nearer realization. One of the things that is being considered is the hiring of a special teacher trained in music and art to supervise these subjects in all the grade schools of the district. It has been decided to replace the Industrial Arts depart- ment which was started this year, by an agricultural department. Tools and equipment which have been pur- chased for the shop will form the nucleus of the equipment for farm shop which will be an important part of the agricultural course. sie W. E. First on our list was MH. and URS- BROCKHAUS, or FLORENCE KRUEGER you will rememben Florence and Harland both insisted on answering the phone, but as usual Florence did the talking. In the background we could see a perfectly appointed home and rolling fields, through a picture window. The next call was to LORRAINE HEUER'S greenhouse where she tells us she in experimen- ting with the cross-pollination for a dandelion and an orchid. As we were spealclng to her we could see coming through the door, a classmate of hers, MARIE KEY, nee HENKEL who is about to place an order for bouquets for her daughter's wedding. The place was booming with business so we decided to hang up and place the next call. When we called ARDIS HOLZ we found her busy ironing dresses for her lovely twin daugh- ters. Chubby little editions to our happy classmate. We placed our next call to the 'ZILISCH TOBACCO CO. and find ERNST busy chewing his mm brand. Looking past his slim masculine figure we see DOLOIES KEY lifting dumbbells-and we don't mean any of the boys of the good old class of '5l. We see that HARRY REGAN was finally located inthe roto section of the Milwaukee Jour- nal. He was hard at work digging up material in the morgue . His co-worker ROBERT REICHOW scarcely had time to talk at all because he was leaving for a press conference in lladison. We hear that GENE GEHTH is on leave so we place a call to his residence. He tells us he is an Admiral in the Navy and that he expects his son to follow in his footsteps. We see that his friends are giving him a party. In one corner we see ROBERT KOHN and his wife Yvonne with their triplets enjoying martinis, and the three bachelors, CARL WILL, LESTER ZUBKE, and GEORGE HELD trying to sing, 'Behind Those Swinging Doors . We thought we had better leave Gene to his own resource and we replaced the receiver on the cradle. We placed our next call to the Ranch House Incorporated.
