Board of Education VVe smile a greeting to the Board of Education! These seven directors, elected by the people, meet on the second Monday of every month. Their duty is to serve and please the people of the district. Sometimes this isn't a very pleasant task. They devote their time and labor toward creating an interest in the public schools among the citizens of the community. They try in their very utmost to serve all of the people all the time. Their active services in the school program affect higher standards of educa- cation through which we acquire the advantages of a modern school system. Cur Board of Education is vital to our educational welfare. The members have planned and worked to provide educational facilities with the finest equipment. At one time Hurst High School was not the school of size and extent that it is today. They have recognized our wants and needs and have granted our many wishes. Their main objective is to further the welfare of school life. Criticism is often thrown in their direction, and congratulations are very few, but they try in every way they know how to perform their duties in order to please everyone. WVith these few thoughts in mind, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to the Board of Education which has made our life at Hurst High School one of beneficial preparation and training. S

' ndmi Commencement for the Class of 1952 means that most of its members have completed their formal education. A few may enter and later be graduated from higher institutions of learning. In either case, this should not complete their education. Education is a life process. Your edu- cation may be furthered through the medium of the newspaper, magazine, book, radio, television, social contacts, your work, and various life ex- periences, all constantly presenting ideas and thoughts that should challenge the individual. These thoughts and ideas may be concerned with your moral, mental, physical, or social wel- fare. Accept the challenge offered. Enjoy the satisfaction of adding to your educational back- ground and putting your training to worthwhile use. More than ever we need alert, intelligent. active citizens who will contribute something constructive toward the solution of individual, local, and national problems. p. . , Colophon Colophon', means the Hnishing touch. In the publication of this Annual, you, the Seniors, are adding the finishing touch to your high school career. In life, be sincere, patient, kind and faith- ful, cultivate a love for truth and honesty. In so doing your character will be developed, your personality enlarged, and your lives abundantly enriched. Love and tenderness, decency and honor, these are the dreams which inhabit all mankind. These attributes of character will sur- vive forever and ever. These noble things have won out in the past, they will win out in the future. Earthis greatest gifts-happiness, con- tentment, and success-will then be achieved. Thus you will have gained the finishing touch.
