As turre hurrues by everyone has moments at haopuness that they wull always cherush and remember September through May are 'nonths fulled Nuth such happuness these are school days Ne, as Sen ors, have had many months ot 'oy and fun here at our old Alma Mater Hurrucane Hugh School September 6 1954 one o these IO s was fulfulled when 131 students entered Hurrucane Junuor Hugh School as Freshmen Our class s onsors were Mary Roberts Wunulred Shafer Chester Derruck ana Hershel Graham Our c ass o :cers were Presudent James Qualls Vuce Presudent Steven Snodgrass, Secretary Connue Chapman and Treasurer Charles Marker We were very fortunate to have ten of our class mates selected to serve as Student Councul representatuves We had tutteen classmates servung on the annual stall In sports, we had nune boys on the basketball team and nuneteen boys out for football Merduth Searls was chosen as Junior Hugh Cheerleader Norma Pruutt was chosen as Queen ofthe Freshman Class As the close of the year drew near, we planned our qraduatuon ceremony We were the turst gra ducting class ot Hurricane Junuor Hugh School Our graduation ceremony was eld on May 6 1955 wuth nunety nune students graduatung Our Valeductoruan was James Oualls Salutatoruan June Sunger the two Honoraruans were t auua Zvargulus and Charles Marker On September 6 1955 118 eager students entered Hurrncane Hugl School as Soplromores This was a bug step for us because we were now another step closer to beung senuors Our sponsors were Estel Burns Duck Barrett, Vurgunua Chapman, and Charles Duke Our class offucers were Presudent, James Qualls Vuce Presudent Norma Pruitt Secretary Connue Chapman and Treasu er, Jackue Canterbury Flve ofour classmates served as Student Councul representatuves Prusculla Oxley was elected Sophomore attendant t Muss Redskun Prusculla Oxley and Connue Keelung were chosen as Senior Hugh malorettes Charlene Gothard was chosen as Senuor Hugh Cheerleader At the Valentune Banquet, Connu Keellng was chosen Valentune Sweetheart Another year had passed and now enterung hugh school on August 31 1956 as Junuors wuth103 students Our sponsors were Ruth Oliver, Duck Barrett, Kathryn Cayner and Faye Perraut Our class offucers were President, Charles Marker, Vice Presudent, Opue ltchell Secretary, Margy Spracklln and Treasurer,Jackue Canterbury We were fortunate enough to have sux of our classmates selected to serve as Student Councul representatuves Connue Keelung represented our school at All State Chorus We had sux boys on the basketball team and nune boys out for football Margy Spracklun and Becky Meads were chosen as Cheer leaders Margy Spracklun was the Junuor attendent ta Muss Redskun The buggest thrull for us In thus year was that we presented to the Sensors a Junuar Sensor Banquet Our theme wds Evening un Parts We now had one more step to take and that step would make us Seniors On September 3 1957 102 students took that long awauted step unto the Senuor Class Our class sponsors were Lulluan Roach, Grace Boggess Jack Davues, and Harry Shanklun Our class officers were President Jackue Canterbury Vuce Presudent Duxue Whute Secretary, Verna Oxley and Treasurer, Tom Kennedy Senuor Student Councul officers were Presudent, Verna Wood, Secretary Norma Pruutt, and Treasurer, Leon Fields At the Putnam County Homecomung Muss Mary Chaney, representung Hurricane, was crowned as Muss Putnam County On October 25 1957 Verna Wood was crowned Muss Redskln Wanna Gibson was her Senior attendent We graduated on May 20 1958, and as we receuved our duplomas, symbolizing our occomplushments here at Hurracane Hugh School we remembered the days of happlness that have fulled our luves happuness that w II last forever And yet, we are sad because we realuze that One day a hush wull fall the footsteps of us all wull echo down the halls and dusappear C ' I ' ' a .
