cLAss PRGPHECY X :sF5::5::p'P lnimk gg! 15 yi Prophecy is a stran e thing Mr Webster says it is a declaration of things to come Maybe 'dream would be a better name, but nevertheless, when the time Qwhich in this case is ten yearsj is fulfilled, maybe we can read over this prophecy and relive again momentarily the happiness we know now Hurricane, W Va , 1961, population 2,000, a small town lying content edly in a beautiful valley It is skirted by small, lazy fields, these being owned and tended by ambitious folks like Charles May and his wife, Phyllis Joyce May Living on the May farm there are three small children who call Phyllis and Charles nlother and Daddy The largest field on this farm has been rented for a wild west show The 'King of the Westn, Dale Spence, is making a personal appearance with his famous horse, Chigger His top cowboy, Wild Bill Umberger, rules the two stable boys, Burke Bell and Ernest Meadows, with a firm hand and a six shooter Horrible shrieks greet us as we come to the business district of this growing metropolis These unearthly sounds are coming from a building with a 'dentist sign up over the door Inside, Catherine Thornton, lady dentist, is extracting a broken tooth from the mouth of Jerrv Hendricks who is chief nut cracker at the zoo What is that strange thing waddllng down the street? Why, 1t's Peggy Boggess, the famous dietician Just recently she gave a lecture on, 'The olly of Fudge Sweet music comes to us on the breeze, or maybe it's mingled with the odor of fresh popcorn We happen to be near the Kissmelove Theatre where Laura Neeley is practicing the hit song for Object of My Afflictionn In the Museum of Natural Mystery, owned by Patsy Fulks, Hermetta Mitchell is displaying her most recent painting of Mary Ellis, who is a well known model The president of the Hurricane Dairymen's Association, Lee Woodworth, has been called on the carpet by Bucky Dent, head of the Humane Society, for being cruel to animals. It seems that while Lee was supervising the oper ation of extracting cow juice, one of his jerseys kicked him and he returned the favor! Look out there! Whew, that was close! The latest issue of the magazine 'Better Homes and Gardens features Ba bara Terry's new recipe for macaroni cake It also devoted a section to Erma Riddle Bays' beautiful home and garden Her flower garden is the beauty spot of the town, but her favorite flowers are the Sweet Williams and little Black eyed Susans who are slowly turning her hair BPH? On the main street corner, Gary Young, promising young news oaperman, is lustily calling attention to the evening edition of 222 Dail Gab This masterpiece of gossip is edited by James LeMaster, w o ives up to the name and traditions of the paper A item which makes this paper a favorite of all is the lovelorn column under the supervision of Polly Abbott who knows what she is talking about Charles Graham has returned from a tour in South America where has been giving lectures to the cannibals on etiquette Imogene Miller is now instructor of the new kindergarten She was teaching her pupils how to get along with each other when Rita Hughes, the superintendent, walked in just in time to catch a spit ball between the eyes This deadly mlssle was thrown bv Carol Rowsev's oldest son There has been more law and order in Hurricane since Shirley Mynes became police captain He arrested Ronald Bird for planting wheelbarrow seed on Sunday and sentenced him to life in comfort The town plumber, Jack Rooper, has been working sev ral days on Rosetta Neumeyer's dish wringer She put her laundry through it by From the little radio shop on Noise Street, owned bv Alvin Forth, comes some mysterious sounds Suddenly a voice says Wstation L I A presents the Betty Smith show, starring Bob Hope and all the little Hopes They sure are little hopes, if Bettv is around' The atomic laboratory is progressing raoidlv since Josephine Escue inherited it Those helping her in her work are Gail Hodges, Palman ita Keeling, and Carol Chapman They are splitting atoms to make a perfume which will draw all good looking men their way Look out, you helpless males' The Rosebowl has been moved to Hurricane and Virgle Mynes, Jack Meeks, Donald Thompson, and Randall Burns have become football heroes in the eyes of every red blooded American boy But a dreadful catas trophe has befallen them They all received broken crazy bones in the last ball game They have been sent to Rattlebraln Asylum Dr Hu bert Wickline says they will recover quickly after a few years of brain cure The only soothing thing in this place of rest is the symphony orchestra conducted by Dick Hankins That's where he ended up after trying to run Spike Jones out of business The latest edition of The Dail Gab tells of a terrible explosion in the upper end of town louise Estes and Beulah Dewitt were canning their winter food supply They put dynamite powder in the cans in stead of salt They had read in Destruction magazine that dynamite powder had great preserving qualitles The Chick Shop, owned by Virginia Adkins, will be the scene of a style show which will feature drooping necklines, waistlines and hem lines Norma Crouch, Jean Erskine, and Charlotte Thompson will model these latest creations I I V' H E . . n he mistake.
