The PTA held lyceums annually during the vears l93h h2 HH had band uniforms for the first time January 8 1939 These were used until 1950 when new uniforms were purchased In l9Ll the school won the state HBH championship in football Foward Conner was the coach This year the school had the first unbeaten, untied season in the history of HHS The new addition to the office was built in February, 19 3 The sta e furniture now in use was purchased by the senior class of 1910 A new shop was opened about l9h3 Three new classrooms also were put in use this year library, laboratory, and kitchen In February, 19 6 the newly redecorated aud1tor1um'was ded icated This project was a gift of the classes of 'hh 5 and 6 The job included a complete remodeling of the stage, pur chase of new curtains and new lights, and repaintinp M E G Nine was the principal at this time A chapter of the National Thespians was organized in 19 B with Mrs Charles Duke as advisor In l9L9 the National Honor Society was organized under the direction of a faculty consistin of Mr Ray Basham, Mrs C R Roach, and Mr Estel Burns, chair man The school hassteadily increased in numbers, having a gross enrollment of S77 this year to teach an all time high In January USS P T A OFFICERS Seated left to right Hrs Hubert Davisftreasurerl, lr Albert Woodworthlvice presidentj, lr William Allenfpresidentl, Irs Ernest Paullsecretaryj , - . ALUNNI- W5 The Alumni Association was first organized by the graduating class of l923,'Hnd in August of l95O was re organized with the first meeting being held on August 25 in the Hurricane High School Auditorium The secondmeetlngwas held on October 5 The Associ ation elected the following officers President Carson Cottrell Class of 1932 Vice President James Thompson Class of 1937 Sec'y R Treasurer Virginia Lazear Class of l9h3 In the near future the association plans to publish a news paper and further plans are to be taken c re of by the project com ittee which is as follows Albert Woodworth Chairman Class of 1928 Agnes Oxley Class of 1929 Doris Sovine Class of 1923 Tony Allen Class of 1932 The association now has 3 members and to this date 976 people have graduated from Hurricane High School The size of the graduating classes of Hurricane High School has varied greatly through the years Classes have ranged in number from five to sixty eight This difference has been due to such things as the depression and the Second World Jar A1 though the Class of '51 is not the largest graduating class it is second with 65 seniors 1923 192 1925 1926 1927 1928 1929 1930 1931 1933 193 1935 1936 E31 1937 1938 1939 19 o 19 1 19 2 19 3 1994 10 5 19 7 19 8 19 9 1950 so 4 I '- e,n .
