For the first time in the history of women's forensic activity at Huron College a debate team made a tour of Iowa, meeting some of the best schools in that state. Catherine McCune, Elinor Jones, and Edith Sutton, accompanied by Professor Garrett, took this trip. On April 26 this team met Buena Vista College, at Storm Lake, Iowa, in an open-forum externpore debate in which both teams were given only a few hours to prepare on a topic which they drew at a specihed hour of that day. On the following evening another open-forum debate was held at Cedar Falls, Iowa, the Huron affirmative debating Iowa State Teachers' College negative on the Japanese immigration question. This entitled him to the Kent gl it ll . 7 'MP' . . .. 3 'WAV prize of twenty-five dollars and the right to represent Huron College jul' in the Divisional Contest which was held in Huron on February 11. l l Mr. Vincent's oration was a beautiful piece of work. In it he made clear the 1' 31 A ' , , , ' I' ilaxkxi' dangers which materialism and imperialism produced, showing that. the insidious X ii 'V . . . . . . . ' ' .. forces operating within them were bringing upon the world a deviation from that X 6 co-operative spirit which the world cherishes. Having seen all these forces at work il at their best during the Great War, lVIr. Vincent presented a plea for better relationship and a more altruistic spirit which would clearly show that the lessons W -'l , . . V li? of the last war were being used as guides to better action.
