For the first time in the history of women's forensic activity at Huron College a debate team made a tour of Iowa, meeting some of the best schools in that state. Catherine McCune, Elinor Jones, and Edith Sutton, accompanied by Professor Garrett, took this trip. On April 26 this team met Buena Vista College, at Storm Lake, Iowa, in an open-forum externpore debate in which both teams were given only a few hours to prepare on a topic which they drew at a specihed hour of that day. On the following evening another open-forum debate was held at Cedar Falls, Iowa, the Huron affirmative debating Iowa State Teachers' College negative on the Japanese immigration question. Employing the squad system which he had seen so successfully operated in his home school, he inaugurated a scheme into the forensic j TZ life of the College which created intense interest and keen competition. r The plan proved a decided success. Not only has this success evidenced itself in victories in the iilkggll scheduled intercollegiate debates, but also in that both a menls and W0men's debate TFT? team has taken an extended debating tour through other states, meeting competition fi 5 of the keenest type. Under his able leadership Huron College has been able to lit establish a very strong and constructive forensic program. Mr. Garrett is a graduate of Knox College.
