In the Tiger of '49 We have a most ingenious device for presenting the past as if it were occurring in the present. Using the theme, TIGERS, FORTY- NINERS, We have commemorated in this centennial year the California Gold Rush, one of the outstanding episodes in our nation's history. The Rush for Gold is a thrilling chapter in the history of our country. It is a story of early California, of mining camps, and of western trails. It is a story of the courage and vision of the rugged, sturdy man. The rapid development of that territory made possible our great present day industries in the West-agriculture, lumbering, cattle raising, fishing, railroading, shipping-all of which contribute so greatly to our national Wealth and prosperity.
