For outstanding service in athletics Five of our boys received awards The intelligence department acquired thir- ty-two new members. Sixty-one of our group were actively engaged in Glee Club and seven received promotions to Treble Clef, The roster of the Operetta, ttMemor- ies of Old Vienna, was swelled by fifty of our individuals. Twenty-one served in the instrumental music department. Bud Bren- ner, Dale Case and Bob Kelson were selected to attend the olficers' candidate school. In the grand council six rookies helped plan the year's activities. Huron High School Sector, September 1, 1941. tDelayed by censorJ After a three months furlough one hundred eightyeeight reported back for duty, Decor- ated again for meritous service on the FlEId 01 athletics were Fifteen boys. The grand total of the contenders with a scholastic average of three A's and one B was fifty- three; of this number, ten were of our own contingent. Bud Brenner, Tena Manolis and Lorraine Abler were selected officers of the group. Five secured positions on the board that assisted in commanding the bunch In the regimental band eleven of our battalion participated, Glee Club had fifty-four members; Treble Clef had eleven and Troubadours had two. On the writing staff of our official publications were seven- teen. The Operetta, Fiesta de la Pampas, featured sixty. On St. Valentine's Day all those who had completed onevthird of their basic training were guests at a Prom given in honor of the ones receivmg their com- missions. Huron High School Sector, September 1, 1942. tDelayed by censorJ One hundred sixty enlisted for their third stretch today. The number of athletes was increased to twenty-one. The intelligence department, at last count, had a dozen par- ticipants. In the Operetta, United Nations on Parade, a great number of our troops took part. Band and orchestra appealed to our group so much that approximately a dozen of our troops enlisted in that organie zation, We had three in debate. Glee Club consisted partially of our platoon, forty-Hve to be exact. Treble Clef obtained thirteen of our gang and Five placed in Troubadoursl Don Weatherill was our commanding offi. cer. Vernon Timperly was vice-commandv er and Lorraine Abler was adjutanti They were selected in a hotly contested campaign between the forces of the Nationalists and the Federalists. The senior board had twelve members, who helped plan the cam- paigns for the year, Of the gang, seven re ceived executive positions on the Tiger Staffs Battery king and queen, Bud Bren- ner and Donna Busse, and their attendants reigned for a day. The prom was held around the hrst of May. Shortly after the prom one hundred sixty seniors went AWOL, Our last meal before embarkment was a breakfast given in our honor: In the National Honor Society were seventeen of our troops. The Victory Corps was organ- ized this year. Approximately one hundred sixty will receive their commissions May 28, GHQ announcedi Those receiving their commissions have successfully completed their twenty-seven months of basic training and will be ready for foreign service and Victory.
