wmaw HISTORY OF CLASS OF '20 After the excitement of the commencement exercises, I went to my mom and, sleep being impossible, I sat meditating, with my diploma in my hand. As I read the inscription on the scroll before me, the thought came to me that eighty students had graduated this yearehy far the largest class that Hurun High School had ever sent forth into the busy wurld. As I pondered over the coveted diploma, which had taken four long years to secure, I fell into a reverie and my mind wandered back to the time when this large and famous class entered high school. We had a little rough smiling at first, being beaten in a color tht by the Sophomores, and the male members of our class being caught and painted all colors of the rainbow. We soon survived that conflict, however, and our Frahman year rolled smuothly on, the only other display of hostility being when the Sophomores tried, without success, to intrude on a mask party we were having, For uur oRicers we elected Tracey Endcrsbee, president; Hnwnrd Shober, vice- president; Jackson Laughlin, secretary-trensurer, and Marion Joseph as our member of the student government committee. Mr. Douglas' nine rules of punctuation and his debates were the delight of our Freshman yeart It was in these debates that we first learned, to our great surprise, that Jackson Laughlin was a Bible student. As We entered our Sophomore year we noted with pride that we had not lost a single member of uur classI We at once elected Clifford Dexter, president, Abner Burtt. viee-presidenr, Sylvia Mmcjka, secretary-trensurer, and Rosalie Clmllneumbe and Jackson Laughlin, members of the student government committee. Our class has always been famous for athletics. As Sophomores, wc contributed more than our share of men to both football and basketballr Nor is uur renown in athletics confined to boys. Many of our girls helnnged to the basketball team and in the girls' class tournament, we were victorious. When we hecnme Juniors we noticed a slight falling of? at membership but uur mnls were replenished to some extent by newcomers. Our others were CliEord Dex- Ier, Jackson Laughlin And Eugene Blystone, Abner Burtt and Rosalie Challncombe were elected members of the student government committee. In this year the athletic fame of our class was greatly augmentedt Our boys were the qundation on which .1 champion football and basketball team were founded. Nine of our men received IiH's for their good work in fuuthnll and six received nveaters for their achievements In basketball. 3r
