As I read the inscription on the scroll before me, the thought came to me that eighty students had graduated this yearehy far the largest class that Hurun High School had ever sent forth into the busy wurld. As I pondered over the coveted diploma, which had taken four long years to secure, I fell into a reverie and my mind wandered back to the time when this large and famous class entered high school. We had a little rough smiling at first, being beaten in a color tht by the Sophomores, and the male members of our class being caught and painted all colors of the rainbow. We soon survived that conflict, however, and our Frahman year rolled smuothly on, the only other display of hostility being when the Sophomores tried, without success, to intrude on a mask party we were having, For uur oRicers we elected Tracey Endcrsbee, president; Hnwnrd Shober, vice- president; Jackson Laughlin, secretary-trensurer, and Marion Joseph as our member of the student government committee. Mr. Douglas' nine rules of punctuation and his debates were the delight of our Freshman yeart It was in these debates that we first learned, to our great surprise, that Jackson Laughlin was a Bible student. As We entered our Sophomore year we noted with pride that we had not lost a single member of uur classI We at once elected Clifford Dexter, president, Abner Burtt. viee-presidenr, Sylvia Mmcjka, secretary-trensurer, and Rosalie Clmllneumbe and Jackson Laughlin, members of the student government committee. Our class has always been famous for athletics. As Sophomores, wc contributed more than our share of men to both football and basketballr Nor is uur renown in athletics confined to boys. Many of our girls helnnged to the basketball team and in the girls' class tournament, we were victorious. When we hecnme Juniors we noticed a slight falling of? at membership but uur mnls were replenished to some extent by newcomers. Our others were CliEord Dex- Ier, Jackson Laughlin And Eugene Blystone, Abner Burtt and Rosalie Challncombe were elected members of the student government committee. In this year the athletic fame of our class was greatly augmentedt Our boys were the qundation on which .1 champion football and basketball team were founded. Nine of our men received IiH's for their good work in fuuthnll and six received nveaters for their achievements In basketball. 3r :anmw HISTORY OF CLASh 0F Euhumtinuud L-n'ud in uur Frushnwn yam, pm A WC, HHHHA fnrzetling thc tl'l'ntmtnt 51.1mm: :0 mg Senim E; which my promzunml xhe . -nirh ui all thy social :ncm itic: cxcr gv'vun in Hurnn High Schnnl. We were to sail for four tears. whence we knew nor where. We elected Rubert Vance to be uur 'ipper to steer us through the storms, safe at the end of our journey, into print Maurine Morin proved an able second tu him. and Mary Huntley hecame our secretary-treasurer. Only once we stopped to take in same more green hued individunis and that was un January 28. Soon afterwards we gave a dance to the entire school to mark thta advent of their joining the crew. It's true that our colors did get a triHe mixed with more venerable Heets, but we scnn got that all straightened out, and once more uul' colors streamed from on high. Some patriotic members of our crew left an April Ist tn aid Uncle Sam The second year our ship sailed the seas in mighty pride. Chester Birks succeeded Robert Vance as our worthy skipper. and Miss Slnan became our ship sponsor. The seas were fairly smooth and any sturms that arose uur able skipper steered us safely thmughi As befitted our growing dignity tin fact, we and the late addition to our number had become a normal colorh, we upened our hearts and purses for the pledging at one hundred dollars towards the new grand pianot Before the season was over, we again entertained the entire high school at a hard times dance, and the larger boats ahead began to look at us with more interest and less scorn, We also made a showing in athletics. The Blue Devils were cummised of our snappy sophs and we wcrc very successful in basketball. Spang and Birks, our class representativ were right there when it came tn football. i This year tour third year nutj weyve had clear sailing, and to complete what our purses did not do in the second year toward the piano, we presented nWhat Happened m JuncsT', which hmught forth unknown genius in all its glory. We alsn presented the annual Junior-Senior Banquet in honur of the Seniors, which fur once made the upper seamen come and enjoy the hospitality of the staunch backers of the purple and the white Mrs. Lawrance was our capable class Sponsor and our year? parth' due to her excellent aqvice. It was also decided that red and white, .1 symhnl of loyalty should represent us. Troubles came immediately, Algebra could not he reasoned with peaceably, and it was necessary to wage war with the enemy at frequent intervals to keep them sub- duedt We often kept spies in these territories however, and by their information we escaped .1 great deal of work. This method did us little goud, for when not at war there were tirESllme drills in Ancient History, and in preparedness for the next battle we were obliged to dig deep trenches in English, piling up knowledge as it was shovcled from the tent. 50 went the tits: year in crimp, a great deal of work and littie play and the three months' furlough granted us was indeed welcome. But at these time: the faculty, who guide us over the troubled sen. answered our 5. O S. hy messages to these pirates to leave 23 alone. Once 0r twice our little vessel shook with mutiny but the common sense of our Captain and some at the crew saved us. You can learn a great deal from that alone, because many things you see advertised are the things you buy and use in your regular daily life. By reading the advertisements, you can learn the names and read descrip- tions of the things that are best and most satisfactory. 98 E. H. OSBORN. Pres. R. A. SMITH. Vic: Pm. C. B, McWEENY.
