H4f .aaa V J 4 All ' A.. lix FRONT ROW Gary Peterson Harry Eisenmann Wayne Vierling Ronnie Gerst Jim Schrock Roger Hadler BACK ROI Ted Nelson CManagerJ Leon Kuntz Jim Anlicker Larry Holsteen John Steiner Crafton Meeker Kenneth Grinstead 1CoaLhJ ounty G amps County Tournament BURLINGTON SOPHS YARMOUTH Record Of 1953 54 Basketball Season INDIANS Following a very successful fall baseball season, the Indians opened from last year's squad bolstered our anticipation for a good year Three other boys who had seen considerable action the previous year added to the over all team strength Lacking organization in our first game, we lost to Wyman 41 42 but came back strong in the next two games to win easily over Mt Union and Denmark We were stopped by Danville 56 36 but whipped Sperry and Oakville in succession before falling to Morning Sun The team won the next three games in order before falling to Danville again After vacation we won three before loosing to Morning Sun a second time The Indians entered the county tournament with a 11 5 record, and earned their way into the finals by beating the Burlington HSophsH, 52 51 in a thrilling come from behind battle won in the last second In the finals we hurried past Yarmouth 47 43 to take the county championship for the first time since 1948 In games played after the county tournament, we won over Mt Union and lost to Yarmouth We carried a record of 13 wins and 6 defeats into the sectional tournament to be played at Mediapolis IJ ll U 52 51 47 43 the 1953-54 basketball year with high hopes.
