Helen Mellegard and Darrell Christensen, the 19 -9 Royalty, were seated on the throne as the royal procession approached the stage. They crowned the new Queen and Marshal, who gra- ciously accepted the highest honor that may he bestowed upon a student of HHS. The attendants were: Virginia Denbow and Boyd Benson, seniors; Marilyn Flyger and Donald Blliott, .Juniors; Shirley Frlman and Dennis Nelson, sophomores; Marcene Walker and Lloyd Luden, freshmen. Train bearers were Cheryl Ahrendt and Gary Marso. Following the coronation program, a pep bonfire and snake dance were held to create enthusiasm for the coming football game. The next day the band and Btudents marched down town and held another pep meeting. That evening the climax of the many activities came when the Hurley Bulldogs defeated the Yankton nBn team in a football game. The Queen and her attendants were presented at the half of the game. Paid attendance passed the two thousand mark, and those present made enough noise both for them- selves and the folks back home. Actually those who stayed at home missed not only a tension- packed title clash, but a game packed with grade A basketball. From the fan’s viewpoint there was little to be desired Between the two teams. The simple truth is that Parker's end of the teeter happed to be up when ’twas all over. The Bulldogs missed several golden chances at the gift line, but found the pesky ball bouncing the wrong way most of the time.
