SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE There are many reasons for as many boys and girls from Madison County reaching great heights during their school life and as American citizens after graduation, but the most outstanding and the most far reaching reason is because they attended the State Vocational School at Hunts- ville, and took advantage of so many of the wonderful op- portunities and services it has to offer. We have endeavored to give, to all students, an effec- tive educational program for leadership and for Vocational competency which is related to the real needs and problems of the individual student, and keeping in mind the problems of the community as well. Our school is designed to meet the needs of today and tomorrow, and to use the talents and experience of every student and teacher to operate in: child welfare and school improvement, teachers welfare, community welfare, state welfare, national welfare, and world welfare. Our aim is to keep the State Vocational School the center of a rich and satisfying community life, where each student and teacher will be looked to as a leader of thought and culture, standing for intelligence, patience, goodwill and cooperation in every phase of life. Our desire is to make ourselves strong physically, spiritually, and mentally, and that we shall use our united strength to go down the line for the things we know are necessary to the success of our great cause in a world that desperately needs light. The choice before humanity is, literally, learn--or perish. Study to show thy self approved unto God, a Workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Frank Cannaday Superintendent State Vocational School Huntsville, Arkansas Dear Nr. I am especially pleased to note that students from your school haue taken honors in competition with students of other schools in widely varied fields throughout the State. I mention especially the outstanding record of your students participating in the Future Farmers of America and the Future Homemakers of America training and competition. Une of the greatest pleasures in being Governor is the fact that I have been and can be of some assistance to a fine institution like the State Vocational School, which is doing such an outstanding job in training the boys and girls of a rural section. I wish for all of you the greatest success in all your future worthwhile undertakings. It is my sincere hope that the graduates of your fine school will remain in Arkansas to make their homes and to aid in the future development of our, fine State. Through the years, members of our class have made names for themselves in many different ways. When we were freshmen, four of our girls made the first team in basketball and a number of them were on the team when the girls won the A A U championship in 1950. Although we didn't win a queen's race, we have tried to show good class spirit every year and came in second when we were juniors. We won the library contest this year and Lee Ora Lewis is queen. We have tried to co-operate with all the teachers and students and will really be sorry to leave this fine school. 1 , We aregleaving, as a gift to the school, a newly decorated stage.
