Joe Lane is that person. The direct approach Joe uses in fulfilling the needs and desires of the students of this school makes Huntsville High aware of his leadership ability. 1 believe that Joe Lane’s capacity as an individual for learning and his desire to guide is so great that he deserves to be the Most Outstanding Senior Boy. Sally Culver Outstanding” is the best word I know to describe Sally. In her, H.H.S. has a dedicated and dependable worker, a spirited student, and an unquestionable leader. One of the nicest qualities Sally has is her unselfish willingness to help others — she’s always ready with understanding and a solution to make any problem disappear. Through her devotion to her school and her friends, Sally has rightfully earned the respect and admiration of everyone she meets, and her scintillating personality sets an example for others to follow. His goal was to provide a quality education for the Huntsville Public School System. His means for attaining that goal could be found somewhere in the rare combination of leadership ability, sincere purpose, and genuine listening. Dr. Stowers began his twenty-year career in education as athletic coach at Houston County High School in Columbia in September, 1950. In March, 1951, he became principal of the school, a post he held until 1955. From there he went to Bullock County High School and served as principal until 1962, when he was named superintendent of the system. In May, 1966, he accepted the position of associate superintendent of the Jefferson County School system where he remained until his appointment as head of the Huntsville City Schools in February, 1968. Active in civic, youth, business, religious, and professional organizations at the local, regional, and state levels, Dr. Stowers not only developed a keen sense of dedication and drive for his own career but also influenced the careers and lives of many others. Dr. Stowers is a man to be remembered for his generous and dedicated services to make his community, his state, and his society better. Our intention has been to faithfully represent the 1970-71 school year at HHS, to reflect emotions and to catalogue facts. The staffs fondest memories will be of Mrs. Jones and her irreplaceable assistance. We love her and deeply appreciate the long, trying hours she has endured to make this annual a success.
