'5 We, the students of Huntsville High School, wish to express our appreciation to Dr. Nelson, who for eight years, has made every effort to improve our school system. During his administration, a school plant second to none in Alabama has been built. H2 has furnished the leadership for the reorganiza- tion of the secondary school program, making the present iunior high school ond senior high school curriculm possible. Our wishes to him are that his administration in the Tuscaloosa School System will be as suc- cessful as it was here. ORGANIZATIUIXIS ADA DANIEL THE 1955 1' FEATURE EDITORS. M. a happy group of 116 Seniors and three teachers waved good-by to friends and relatives. They took last minute glimpses at the House of Study and were off for nine days. After riding sixteen hours, the seniors still had energy to see the Natural Bridge, go swimming, play pin ball machines, and visit the souvenir shop at Natural Bridge, Virginia, before retiring. The little whistle was blown, and it wasn't long until we were on our way to Washington. Along the way we stopped to visit Stonewall .lackson's Tomb, Lee's Chapel, Monticello, and Mt. Vernon. At 5:00 P. M. the Congressional Hotel, Washington D. C., welcomed us as guests. That night special interest groups made the supper clubs, theaters, or other points of interest. The sun was shining bright. The seniors boarded the buses to tour Washington. We saw the Marine Monument, the changing of the guard at Arlington Cemetery, Iefferson and Lincoln Memorials, Lee's home at Arlington, and the White House. We Iunched at the National Art Gallery with Senator Sparkman and Mr. Robert Davis. After lunch we visited the Capitol, National Archives, Washington Monument, and then the Smithsonian Institute. After such a strenuous day, eye strain, and aching feet were reported. Once more abroad our trusty buses, we began our iourney for New York. About half way we encountered a snow fall. incidentally it kept falling throughout the next day. On arriving in New York, we donned heavy coats and started hitting the hot spots. It certainly was a white Monday in New York. When we went to breakfast, we discovered snow almost to our knees. New York traffic was snow bound but not us--f we went shopping. We started on our tour of New York although the streets were still covered with snow and ice. We visited the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the United Nations building. Lunch was served at the Cartoon Restaurant ithat was a laughi. We saw Wall Street, rode down River Side Drive through the Bowery. In Chinatown we visited a Chinese temple and a Chinese shop. On the boat trip ta the Statue of Liberty, we had a good view of Manhattan Island. Special interest groups saw plays and shows. One group went to the famous Latin Quarters. The streets were clean and again we boarded the buses for the return trip to Washington. Arriving at 3:00 P. M., we had a chance to see what Washington's business personnel was like. It was the last night we would be in a big city so almost everyone went out on the town. There were a few that came in early to try to catch up on sleep. One never realizes how big Virginia is until he starts home. Driving all day, we were still in Virginia when we stopped for the night. This day was some day. Last minute tricks were played. Everyone was full at excitement. Believe it or not, we were all glad to see the big brick building with Huntsville High School across the front. All agreed with the old saying, Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. HEROES 'r...z4,'.4 IT'S THIS WAY WE'LL BEHAVEI WHAT NOW? -AA, -.W Q.. PQ I HW 'f'Qblh ,. .-4 vw' 4.
