The Huntsville High Crimson Panthers opened their T947 football schedule with a small inexperi- enced team under a new coach and a new system. Opening up with Joe Bradley, the cross-town rivals, The Crimsons dropped a heart-breaking 6-O game to the Gamecocks, the first in their long rivalry. The fol- lowing week Huntsville defeated Gurley by the score of 20-7. Next came Sheffield, 55 strong, and defeated Huntsville T2-7. Huntsville travelled to Tuscaloosa the following week to meet the strong Tuscaloosa County Wildcats. The Wildcats won by the score of 23-7. Billy Michael, Panther right halfback, returned a kick-off 90 yards for the only marker for Huntsville. Emma Sansom, the next opponent in Huntsville, won a 6-O victory after Huntsville had clearly out- played the Rebels throughout the game. On October 22, the Crimsons defeated Hanceville in Hanceville, the score being 34-O. Long runs by Taylor, J. E, Michael, Simms and Billy Michael featured the touchdown parade. On October 29 the undefeated, untied, powerful Decatur team came to Huntsville and tamed the Panthe s to the tune of 34-O. Displaying a fast running backfield and a hard charging line the visitors hardi- ly outclassed the home team throughout the game. After' postponing the game until Monday night, Huntsville's next opponent was Florence in Florence. The Panthe's got off to a very good start and drove to a touchdown in the first three minutes of the game, only to have it nullified by a penalty. Hunts fille never recovered and was beaten by a good team by the score of l3-O. Next came Hewitt High School from Truss- ville, who brought a light, but well-coached SCORES team but were outclassed to the tune of 53-O.
