LONG JAMES MCKENZIE BRYSON SIMMS CHARLES WALKER MEMOIRS OF THE CLASS OF 1946 Let us turn back the pages of our school hustory to September of 1933 when our mothers led us by the hand to our daytume homes We thought we were somethung goung to school un our plaud dresses pug tauls struped shurts and hort pants As the years rolled by and we learned to read wrute add and duvude we began to realuze that we were growung up Our pug tauls became curls short pant changed to trousers and the meanung of school became dufferent Those furst sux years vanushed rapudly and we hated to leave Eat and West Clunton Street Schools but the thought of beung un .lunuor Hugh seemed wonderful Durung our years of school many students left many new ones uouned us and a great many of us stayed together Makung new acquauntances was wonderful but we mussed the ones who left Our Junuor Hugh days marchung through the halls lunung up un front of school and knowung that we would soon be goung to Hugh Sclnool were days that we wull never forget On December 7 1941 when the .laps attacked Pearl Harbor ana the Unuted States declared war on Japan we then realuzed that we were chuldren of a war and that some of our Mason Coach McClendon and Mrs OReully helped us wuth problems Mr Hunes made ut clear to us about whuch steps to go up and whuch to go down He always aud Ruse un the East and set un the West as the sun learned the verse prayer and repeated ut almost every Monday Wedne day and Fruday un chapel Thats about all we learned that year except we loved Muss Annue and dudnt fear her The war sutuatuon was growung steaduly worse all over the world and our Sophomore year un Hugh School was a year of work sacrufuce and above all hard study Casolune and sugar were ratuoned but we dudnt mund the scarcuty uf
