'A l xv 1 O 'M 'L O , - . f by JAY GRAF Here rt was 1999 and Ihad never seen some of my old classmates smce we got lost 1n the mountarns on our sneak day I dectded II was trme to be lookrng them up so I Jumped rn my Jet and headed for Huntley Huntley hadn t changed a btt except for an rncrease of 35 O01 tn populatron I set my Jet down 1n Huntley s new auport I decided to stght see a lrttle brt so I harled a tax1 and we headed for the ctty Upon arr1v1ng I nottced a huge gatherrng rn the park I asked what was gomg on and found out the mayor was gtvrng a speech concermng the defense of the crty agarnst rnvaston from outer space I frnally got up close enough to recogntze the mayor and who should It be none other than Anrta Harouff I talked to her awhrle and found out Sharon Artz was also rn Huntley at the trme She was a counterspy for the F B I so she moves around qurte a lot I got to talk to her and found out she was planmng a revolt to overthrow the commurust regrme I asked her 1f rt wasn t rather dangerous but she sa1d IE gave her somethtng to do and took the dullness out of lrfe After leavmg Sharon and wtshrng her the best of luck I went on I passed a news stand and nottced on the headltnes of the Huntley News Bulletm that the world famous detecttve had captured etght of the ten most wanted crlmrnals ln a darlng gun battle As I read further I learned that the detectlve was Janet Sprague On a TV rntervrew that mght Janet sa1d she really emoyed her work I knew Janet would contmue to be famous because chasrng men seemed to be her specralty Her ab1I1ty to catch them IS what really boosted her to fame I dectded to V1S1I the rocket testtng center on the edge of the crty just as I arrlved a rocket was be1ng prepared for launchrng I learned the ptlot was Llnda Hauserman so I tmmedrately went to look her up I found her recetvtng last mrnute rnstructrons When she was through I asked why she was gotng on thrs tnp She sa1d she had heard there were men on Mars and she wanted to know for sure She sa1d life on earth was rather dull anyway I headed back for the crty and decrded to VISIT the park once more before gotng home I was srtttng on a bench when someone went by prckrng up b1ts of paper and the 11ke I thought I should know her so I called her over and sure enough II was Marlys Hauserman I asked her why she was dotng thrs She sard she was on vacatlon and smce she was a world famous actress thrs was the only way she could escape publrcrty whtch she sard was very trresome to her I had heard nothxng of LaWayne Schroder better known as Swede, and thought maybe he was sttll lost rn the mountatns I heard a l1tt1e later that he was a hermlt out rn the desert He sard he thought the next generatron should have somethmg better to read than Shakespeare and Longfellow so he took It upon hrmself to wrtte ltterature for them Now I guess Shakespeare and Longfellow are practtcally unheard of As a matter of fact one of h1s books 15 be1ng made 1nto a movre Starrrng rn the mov1e rs the famous srnger actor Mr Osterlund After fmdmg my old classmates I decrded to head for my asparagus farm rn the Antarcuc So far I have never had a good crop I thrnk maybe tt s the frost that 13 so hard on the asparagus I don t know n . . , . . 9 . . . . , . . - 1 4 , n o .
