Upon arrival, we were met by Pat Zeigler and Kathy Kelly, who were to be our guides. We were first taken to the beautiful and impressive hut of Roxie Yake, governor of the land. Here we met her loyal and devoted advisors, Jean Lewis, Mary Ann SettlSmyre and Marcella Hefner. Governor Yake then took us on a special tour in her custom-built Rolls Royce, and to our surprise, Stan Landrum was the Chauffeur. At the first corner we saw the Hilley Construction Company, owned and operated by Diana -Hillegas and Connie Mickley, building the mud hut and gorilla skin cabinets for Ronnie Mason ' s Head Hunter ' s House, which we then toured. After talking with Mr. Mason we discovered that Ronnie Kimmel and. Dick Goebel were Gold Star members. They had earned this honor by coming the closest to capturing the main prey, Nikita Castro. The next place we visited was the Oga Waga Reservation. As we arrived, the speaker, Ray Gordon, was just fi nishing his lecture on The Arts of Cannibalism. Mr. Gordon ' s most enthusiastic listener seemed to be Ed Hacker. Why??? We still haven ' t figured that out yet. As our stomachs began to growl with hunger, we were introduced to Tom Oldfield, the leader of the tribe. Much to our delight he invited us to stay and dine with him and his harem. A- mong them we recognized Carol B ' ryant, Pat Oden, Leah Glascock and Janet Gray. The main dish tasted a bit peculiai; so we asked what we were eating. After he told us what it was, we decided we were not as hungry as we thought. Would you be if you were eating the arm of Charles Milholland????? Next we were shown some of the farms owned by Jerry Miller. On one particular estate. Bill Elett and Bob Emley were taming python snakes they had taken from the chemistry labora- tory. After the taming of these overly friendly snakes, they were transferred to Harper ' s Folly, owned and operated by Kay Harper. We found her diligently hurrying to finish the milking of her snakes, because Gary Mickley was soon due to pick it up. Marlene Reifert, who had brought along her pet leopard, Puddles, was helping Miss Harper meet the pick-up deadline. As our tour was continued we saw Wayne Whitney, who was mumbling in Latin to his old and decrepit elephant being left far behind by Dick Riggars. who was steering his late model red and white convertible trunk elephant. Next we saw Jack Hiple leisurely swimming among the alligators in Last Chance swamp. The following sight was Ed Waters tediously trying to measure the length of a hair from the skull of Kathleen Orr. We inquired about Miss Orr and it seemed that Jim Durham, the local witchdoctor, had operated on her eye, but the spear slipped. After that bit of encouraging news, we decided to continue on. -23 Cast Will and Zest amen t I, Nancy Alford, will to Pat Rosen my ability to put thumbtacks onTVIr. What else, but Mary Ella Shivley and Steven Spickelmier having a race on the vines of the jungle. Then we saw a traveling band wagon with Rex Clark trying to sell his famous candy bar, made from delicious snake and alligator scales, and Sharon Miller selling No-Kink shampoo. The victims of these hard working sellers were Nancy Alford, a lover of rarities, and Gerald Quick, a boy with a hair problem respectively. Our next stop was the exquisite vine-covered hut of Barbara Harrell and Betty Little. As we arrived at their modern hut, we were greeted by their jungle keepers, Dick Lahr and Glenn Beady. To our disappointment, the girls were not home so we extended our best wishes to their keepers and went on our way. For the evening ' s entertainment, we were taken to the Cocabanana Nite Club, where we spotted Lois Paxton and Pam Wiley doing their version of the exotic twist. As we got closer, we heard Margaret Krider singing The Witch Doctor accompanied by Jerry Wagner playing on his spineless vertebrae. As our guides led us to the gate watched by Jerry Phillips, we were given a lovely corsage created from stinkweeds by Tom Miller and wished a fond farewell. We must confess that we were happy to return to civilization and good food again. Patricia Cotton Becky Merryman Kathleen Penn -69 - 70- HIGH SCHOOL V (jirls ' J tkktic MsociatoM Q.A.A. There has been a wreck on the line and there is no other re- fuge from the storm. What a conglomerate mixture of people is thrown together to wait for the relief train. Without food the group becomes restless and are thrown into pandemonium when Mrs. Vandeventer discovers that her valuable necklace is missing. Bill Lindsay holds trial and with the aid of inquisitive Miss Pidgie, they clear Mrs. Guarino, the suspect. The pearls had fallen into the lunchbasket of Mrs. Guarino while the haughty Mrs. Vandeventer was foraging for food which Mrs. Guarino had in her basket. JUNIOR PLAY CAST Seated: L. to R. A long awaited visit to the home of his uncle and aunt which should have been a joy to all turned into something more than fun when he invites his bosom pal to accom- pany him. What should have been a surprise to the relatives turns into a fright for the boys when they discover that the uncle is a mortician. One of the guests walks around and even pals with Hercules. The guest Jason Quigley is actually trying to trick the person or persons who has tried to do away with him m his sleep by playing dead then sliow up at his own funeral and trap the guilty party. Here ' is all for leaving until he sees the grand -daughter of Jason and BOOM, just like that he decides to stay. The plan was good and things should have ended peacefully but two things fail- ed: the grand-daughter finds out, tips off the family and everything is messed up. Uncle Bob is implicated and put in jail, but the boys come face to face with the culprit and just escape with their necks. The play had one of the wildest finishes ever. 75- Student Librarians Seated: M. Russo, C. Amundsen, J. Spickelmier, B. Bruss, B. Pressler, P. Gotten, Mrs. Johnson, S. Baker C. Weaver, P. Elzey, K. The student council was organized to be of service to the students of the upper six grades. This year the council sponsored a project called Penny Pitch whose funds were donated by all of the classes instead of the gift exchange at Christmas time. This fund was used to purchase pigs which were shipped to the island of St. Lucia in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean. The council also sponsbred the sale of Bearcat Bookcovers and Bearcat Badges . Proceeds from these sales provided printed programs for the home basketball games and financed several assembly programs. The students heard Oscar Gren, a Swedish immigrant, on September 22 and Charles King, singer, on October 21. The elementary grades were entertained by Henry Maar, the Balloon Man on January 11 and the Bucknerll Marionettes on February 26. On March 5 scenes from plays called Contrasts in Shakespeare were enjoyed by the high school and on May 2, the memory expert, Orville Fitzgerald spoke on Mind in Action . -77 SPORTS ■7 COUNTY BASKETBALL TOURNEY CHAMPS -79 Varsity Club VARSITY BASEBALL -80 JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL JUNIOR HIGH CHEERLEADERS S. These twenty-four were to continue here and spend all twelve years in the same building: Nancy Alford, Robert Emley, Leah Glascock, Ed Hacker, Barbara Harrell, Jack Hiple, Ron Kimmel, Margaret Krider, Kathy Kelley, Stanley Landrum, Ronald Mason, Connie Mickley, Jerry Miller, Patte Oden, Kathleen Orr, Jerald Phillips, Marlene Reifert, Mary Ella Shivley, Ed Waters, Pamela Wiley, Roxie Yake, Patricia Zeigler, Dick Riggars and Mary Ann Settlemyre. After discovering that school wasn ' t so bad we entered the second grade. Ray Gordon, Richard Lahr, Gary Mickley and Lois Paxton joined us this year and Kathy Kelley left. Our teachers were Mrs. Vernerder and Mrs. Ensminger. When we entered the third grade we were well acquainted with school. Glenn Beady, William Elett, Marcella Hefner and Charles MilhoUand joined us this year and Kathy Kelley re- turned. Our teachers were Mrs. Vernerder and Mrs. Brown. In the fourth grade our teachers were Miss Gesaman and Mrs. Hauenstein. This year Steven Spickelmler, Diana HiUegas and Tom Oldfield joined our class. In the fifth grade just one new student joined us. This student was Jim Durham. Our teachers were Mrs. Hauenstein and Mrs. Mickley. In the sixth grade we were divided as usual with Mrs. Mickley and Mr. Wohlford as our teachers. The two students who joined us this year were Sharon Miller and Richard Goebel. By the time we reached Junior High we were feeling very important because now we were going from room to room for our classes and having our first class activities. These were skating parties with Mrs. Frances Lawver for our sponsor. Jean Ann Lewis joined our group this year. -110 When we entered the eighth grade Mrs. Isobel Kreiger became our sponsor and two more were added to our roll. These new members were Tom Miller and Janet Gray. Entering the ninth grade was no problem for we thought we knew everything but what a surprise was in store for us. Studies were really becoming more difficult. Mr. Strong and Mrs. Virginia Clark were the sponsors for the class. Re.x Clark joined the class in our freshman year. The Sophomore year seemed longer than the others because we were not upper classmen. Carol Bryant and Kay Harper joined the class this year and Mrs. Helen Kreiger and Mr. Sell were our sponsors. Many new jobs awaited us in our Junior year. This was to be our money making year be- cause we would have the Junior-Senior banquet in the spring. We sold magazine subscriptions and boxed candy as a major project and had the concessions at the ball games and during the lunch period. Mrs. Shideler and Mr. Sell were our sponsors and Wayne Whitney and Gerald Quick joined our group. We finally reached our goal, our Senior Year, with Mr. Sell and Mr. Wohlford to direct us through the many activities. Programs to plan, selecting our caps and gowns, selling greeting cards, drawing for cakes at ball games, our Senior Trip to plan, check room for patrons at the fish fry were a few of the items we found to do. We were able to wedge a few class parties into our busy schedule. Mofe names were added to the class roll again this year. Jerry Wagner, Wanda Waters, Diana McVoy, Brenton Quinn, and Carol Poehler made our class enrollment fifty- one as we prepared to finish our school days at Huntington Township High School. M. H. J. G.
