CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1945, twenty-SCVCH eager students faced their teachers, Mrs. Steele and Mrs. Musgrave, for the first time. These twenty-seven were Eunice Barnes, Phillip Bruss, Mike Bryan, Jim Dunnuck, Bill Cone, Mary Huffman, Kay Lahr, Lawrence Landrum, Richard Lee, Alta McClain, Janet McHenry, Fred Mercer, Dean Merryman, Jim Shivley, Sandra Storey, Tom Tobin, Beverly Wiley, Jerry Willour, Jane Kethcart, Janice Kethcart, Jim Biddle, Marilyn Cross, Velene Bowers, Earl Holley, Paul Holley, Karlita Bonewitz and Douglas Watkins. Out of the twenty-seven students these seventeen were destined to graduate from Huntington Township. They were Eunice Barnes, Phillip Bruss, Mike Bryan, Bill Cone, Mary Huffman, Kay Lahr, Law- rence Landrum, Richard Lee, Alta McClain, Janet McHenry, Fred Mercer, Dean Merryman, Jim Shivley, Sandra Storey, Tom Tobin, Beverly Wiley and Jerry Willour, Jim Dunnuck started and finished school here, but he spent some of his elementary grades in another school. After discovering that school wasn't so bad after all, we found ourselves ready for the second grade. Our class was again divided, this time between Mrs. Vernerder and Mrs. Riley. We gained four new students this year. They were as follows: Pat Rader from Horace Mann, Clarence Johnson from Michigan, Pat Duree from Avon, and Larry Smith from Columbia City. The third grade found us still divided into two sections, Mrs. Vernerder having one sec- tion and Mrs. Hugh Brown having the other. This year we lost Jim Dunnuck, who transferred to another school. Our class increased in size with the addition of Gerald Eckert from Huntington Catholic, Diane Elett from Fort wayne, Jim Sills from State Street, Vernon Byrd, and Nora and Catherine Huffman. We started the fourth grade with Miss Gesaman as our teacher. A newcomer was Gene Hauenstein from Clear Creek. We lost Douglas Watkins. We started fifth grade off with a bang under the direction of Mrs. Wike. She taught us many things about wild life. Learning about wild life with us was Janet Hoch from Riley, Pat Hawkins from Fort Wayne, Roger Norton from Ohio, Jim Dunnuck from Lagro, and Riva LaBar, This year Diane Elett and Karlita Bonewitz moved away. We went on to the sixth grade with wonderful dreams of soon being in junior high school. Cletus Lahr was the teacher. Added to our class were Janet Bowers from Central, Judy Paxton from Tipton, and Rhea Creager from Lincoln. Subtracted from our class were Pat Duree and Larry Smith. fContinued on page 755
