Our class was divided into two groups, our teachers being: Mrs. Dessie Steel and Mrs. Madge Musgrave. Of that forty-five that started, twelve are still with us. They are: Marjorie Bruss, Jim Cragop, Carolyn Davis, Jerry Funderburg, David Huston, Tom McNally, Birdie Robison, Larry Shriner, Jack Slusser, Q Roland Snider, Joan Kline, and Joan Harris. We were fortunate enough to progress on to the second grade where we were still divided into two groups, our 1 . 1 J teachers being: Mrs. Nina Vernerder and Mrs. Madge Musgrave. We were now in the third grade and together at last. The lucky teacher was Mrs. Marie Young. Our class , Tipton, and Gordon Swain from Scio, Ohio, 2 increased in size with Kent Andrew coming from Horace Mann, Sandra Brown from Union, Carol Hiers from -J 'While Miss Isabella Geasman was trying to teach us long division in the fourth grade, Edward Kline from Riley, joined the bewildered group. We enjoyed our short stay in the fifth grade very much. Our teacher, Mrs. Ida Wike, taught us a great deal 1 about wildlife and took us on hikes through the surrounding country side. Coming from Rock Creek to help us enjoy these hikes was Larry Nelson. During the sixth grade, Mrs. Fleck, our regular teacher, became ill. During the first semester, we had many substitute teachers. The new members this year were Betty and Marylin Ferguson From Lincoln, Elaine Pinkerton from Central, and Janice Eckert from Huntington Catholic. At last we reached Junior High. Our first sponsor was Mrs. Stitely. During this year we could now have class parties. Taking advantage of this fact, we had our first hay ride. The new addition to our class was Roberta Vought from Bippus. In the eighth grade we were becoming accustomed to changing from one class to another at the end of each period, We had as our sponsor Mr. Homer Kline. We were joined this year by Betty Day from Rock Creek, Sandra Martin from Horace Mann, and Nancy Settlemyre from Riley. We become indeed big wheels in our Freshman year. This year the girls were invited to join G. A. A. We had a lot of fun with our new sponsor Mr. Alfred Piedmont. We elected as class officers: President, Larry Shrinerg Vice President, Carolyn Davis: Secretary, Sandra Martin: and Treasurer, Roland Snider. In our Sophrnore year we again had Mr. Piedmont as our sponsor. We were finally becoming accustomed to High School and were constantly teased by the upper classmen. Our class officers were: President, Roberta A Vought: Vice President, Edward Kline: Secretary, Carolyn Davis: and Treasurer, Roland Snider. V During our Junior year we had two sponsors. They were Mr. Piedmont and Mr. Richard Bussard. We ended the Junior year with more money in our treasury than any Junior Class before us. We gave a reception for our Juniors and Seniors, the theme being Stairway to the Stars and for our class project we sold magazine 1 subscriptions. Our class also sold refreshments at all the home ballgames and presented as our Junior play, i Kicked Out of College. Our class officers were the following: President, Carolyn Davis: Vice President, ' Larry Shriner: Secretary, Roberta Vought: and Treasurer, Roland Snider. Ar long last we are now Seniors, There are now twenty-seven of us who are fortunate enough to have made the grade, We have Mr, Piedmont and Mr. Norman Robinson as our sponsors and our class officers are as l follows: President, Carolyn Davis: Vice President, Roberta Vought: Secretary, Sandra Matting and Treasurer, Roland Snider. Since our Senior play, The Custers' Last Stand is past, we are looking with great expectations to the things which lie ahead, our Junior and Senior Reception, Commencement, and finally the Senior trip. ' I-Je will then be forced to turn our footsteps away from Old H. T. H. S. and seek our fortunes. ,ri 'il si '1 ll As CLASS WILL Inscribed and dedicated with all due respect, our will of 1955 Bequeath we our gifts both large and small To be used by our Township evermore. PROPHECY We four Juniors of 1955 after twenty years of hard labor with no success, we find ourselves resting at the Huntington County Infirmary. For our pleasure the county has given us a 36 , technicolor, sterephonic sound, cinemascope, '75 Console Model TV set, As we switched on the automatic dialing we found ourselves watching the Afternoon Sports Review . The high- light of the program is an interview with the coach of the year , Corky Swain. Corky says that his Cleveland Indians are sure to win the world series after losing for nine years to Brooklyn. He also said that it wasn't for his wife, the former Birdie Robinson and her inspiration to the Indians, that they wou1dn't have a batting average of. 535. As we navel around the sports world in 60 seconds we go on to the basketball game with the Boston Whirlwinds facing the Toledo Mercu.ries in the first game. The opening tipoff is about to begin and who do we see jumping center but Tom McNally and Dave Huston, who have made good in pro basketball. We see Jim Qago and Jack Slusser sitdng on the bench beside the coach, and we think they are injured until during the first time out when we saw Jim and Jack not out on the floor with smelling salts and a towel. ,At half-time there was an interview with Jerry Funder- burg who told us that he enjoys his job of being detective at the ball game. He said his main job was trying to find out who was throwing soggy popcorn balls at the referees during the ball game. At the end of the game we were very proud to see Marilyn and Betty Ferguson and Janice Eckert as the yell leaders for the victorious Boston team. Since it was time for our regular evening walk into town fonly a quarter of a milej, we turned off the TV set and went on our way. As we were walking along we almost got hit by a big long, sleek Cadillac which came to a screech- ing stop, and out jumped Quentin Sargent who asked if we wanted a ride into town. As we were riding along he told us that the car wasn't his, but that he was just a chauffuer for Elaine Pinkerton, who is a great writer, her latest edition being How to Trap a Man in Ten Easy Lessons Quentin let us out at the court house where we sat on the steps and BIC our sack lunch. As we were eating our lunch who should we see but Larry Nelson, who told us he had just been voted the 'Best Dressed Bum of the Year , As we were walking along the street we saw Carolyn Davis's picture on a billboard. We went a little closer and saw that she was running for the first woman governor of Indiana. We got back at the farm at 7:30 p. m. , in time to see This is Your Life , and who should be the guest but Eddie Kline, the great producer of Guerangwhiface fnew breed of cattle Ed invented, Guernsey, Angus and White Facej, Many of his friends were flown in from all pang of the world, but he was really surprised to see his former secretary, Miss Betty Day, who- is now employed at the Latin Quarters with her French Can-Can girls. Carol I-liers and Roberta Vought are the leading team of girls in her floor show and they say that they really enjoy show business very much. Joan Kline was flown in from Washington D. C. She was Eddie's former singer, who sang for the cows while he mill-red, And, last but not least, Ed's wife, the former Sandra Brown, his high school sweetheart, who is now taking Joan's place, singing to the cows. That was the end of the program and on came another one of those commercials. This one wasn't boring though, because on it we saw Joan Harris who was modeling a Chinchilla bathing suit with handbag to match, and shoes made of Russian Ermine. It was designed by the famous Sandra Martin who is now working out of Gay Paree. Closing the commercial, Nancy Settlemeyer was advertising the sleep-well mattress made out of foam plastic. She says, Sleep on this and you will feel like getting up again. The next program we see is the Kent Andrew Serenade, which is a modern day version of Liberace. His guest star was Roland Snider who is a big wheel with Capital Records. His latest recording is being worked over Re-enlistment Blues . It is now 12:30 a. m. , and on the screen came Margie Bruss. It seems strange that we never pictured her as a big TV star. Margie is a disc jockey on the night owl show which lasts until 1:30 a. m. We turned off the TV set and was just about ready to go to bed when we glanced down at the evening edition of the paper. A big ad was advertising Larry Shriner 8: Sons, new and used car dealer It seems that Larry bought out Powers and afterwards didn't have enough money to buy a new car so he is still driving his '36 Ford. After a long hard day of hearing and seeing the Seniors of 1955, we decided to retire, because the next day was the big day of the year. The County Commissioners headed by Mr. Piedmont, were coming to inspect the inmates and the home: since we were former students of Mr. Piedmont's we wanted to look our best. The team won 9 games while losing close decisions to Union and Warren. Tom Earlywine with . 444 won the batting honors with Swain . 384 and Laurie and Barber with . 372, following closely behind. Ray Earlywine and Swain did the pitching duties with Jim Sailors doing the receiving. The prospects for the team next year should be very good with only 4 lettermen graduating this year. Say, and we're not foolin when we tell you that we hate to quit. We want to add that we have learned much and have had plenty of fun. The old county record was set by Andrews in 1943 which was 23-1. Our only defeats came the first game of the season by Van Buren and in the regional when a much taller Hartford City team beat us. The Hendricksmen received its first honors when they won the Huntington County Tournament by defeat- ing Andrews in the finals. In the final game of the season they defeated Rock Creek to win the County Conference with a 9-O record. This win leaves Township in possession of the Traveling Trophy until the season opens next year. Township drew Huntington High School in the first game of the sectional, who they defeated in an over- time, This is the first time Township has defeated Huntington, and also the first time Huntington has been defeated in their first game of the sectional. Our team later defeated Roanoke in the final game. This is the first time a sectional winner has been the winner of the County Tourney and County Conference. This year the team tied for the States longest winning streak by winning 25 in a row. Another interesting fact is that we have now beaten Catholic 7 straight times over the past 3 seasons. Fred Tobin won the varsity free throw championship with an average of . 659. The team free throw average. was . 597. The varsity field goal average was . 378 with Crago hitting a blazing . 439, followed by Laurie . 390, Shriner , 361, Tobin . 354, and Slusser .345. Jack Slusser was voted honorary captain of the team for the season by his team-mates. The team next year should be very good with '7 of the varsity returning and a very promising second team coming up to help. The above record set by the team this year is an indication of the very capable direction for the past 5 years of our coach, Mr. Hendricks. 'I E1 9 Er.: I5 I x . F.
