HISTORY OF CLASS OF '51 foontinuedj FRESHMEN: Here we are. Our first year in High School. After school had been under- way for a week or so, Mr. McCrum announced that our sponsor would be Galen Colclessor, a first year teacher from the WCollege.' In our first class meeting we chose Phyllis Hart as President and Anne Swain as Vice-President. Later in the fall season we decided to have a hay-ride and went to Paul Clark's home. Everyone had a good time. At Christ- mas time we were all invited to a party at Carol Brown's home and so we exchanged names, bought a gift and went. SCPHOMORES: When we assembled to receive our book lists on the first day of our sophomore year, we found that we had a new member in our midst, Shirley Beady. This year our sponsor was Mr. Ackerman, a shy mathematician now in South America Cno connec- tionl. Our officers were: David Merryman, President and Fred Hauenstein, Secretary - Treasurer. Max Schwob, Anne Swain, and Dick Coles were student council representatives. me went to Miss Swain's home on our hay-ride. At Christmas time we met at Mae Wa1l's home and were taken from there to the home of her sister at Andrews, where we completed the party. JUNIORS: We are now all juniors iwill miracles never ceasel. We added still another new member, Miss Marilyn Jackson. After several tryouts, Mr. Mulligan was our sponsor and directed and produced our famous play, NBelieve It or Notu. We started our gay social season off with a hay-ride at Carol Brown'S. Our Christmas party was at Helen Sell's and was a smashing success. We decided, before school was out, to have a beach party and so on a warm Sunday in July, we met on the court house lawn from whence, we went to long lake for a lovely picnic provided for us by the girls. Just after school was out the class went to the state park at Lagro for a picnic. late in the summer the girls held a farewell party for Barbara Chamberlain. SENIORS: Highlights of a memorable senior year included a hay-ride to the home of Max Schwob. Things got a little rough for asthma sufferers and there seemed to be a lot of them, as straw flew all over the wagon. Other social occasions of the year included a birthday party thrown by Camilla Huston, a surprise party for Marilyn Jackson, a wiener roast at the Carol Brown residence, a slumber party at Smyser's following the Indoor Fair a Halloween party at Ellen Storey's, a skating party at Beatty's Rollerina, the Christ- mas party held at Anne Swain's house, and a dance featured by Lloyd Fluke's Orchestra. In addition to the eventful senior trip at the close of the year other excursions were taken including a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry at Chicago and a trip to the State Capitol at Indianapolis.
