nf-fief y Ifcfass o I5 FIRST GRADE: On September l, 1939, forty-seven frightened students faced their teachers, Mrs. Steele and Miss Lee. The students enrolled in Mrs. Steele's room were: Carol Brown, Ernest Crips, Deloris Davis, James Elston, Willard Garretson, Barbara Gressley, Ronald Harris, John Heiney, Carl Holmes, Camilla Huston, Alberta Jacobs, John Kennedy, Ronald Lash, Ireta Lawson, William McNally, Peggy Mygrant, Helen Sell, Norma Shell, Donald Snider, Esther Snow, Ned Spath, Betty Tobin, Norma Vergon, Allen Smart, Jack Herndon. The students enrolled in Miss Lee's room were: Eloise Bailey, Ronald Ballard, Lewis Beck, Charles Brumbaugh, Marvel Buzzard, Janet Cleaver, Dick Coles, Sue Ann Evert, David Gamble, Richard Keplinger, Maruice Reed, Lou Roger, Nannette Satterthwaite, Marilyn Sieberns, Carl Smith, Marilyn Smyser, Darl Stern, Leon Stern, Ellen Storey, John Swales. SECOND GRADE: Our class was divided again back into Miss Lee's room, while the rest of had a new member this year, it was that little this year, some of the students going us went into Miss Jane's room. We Susie Kriegbaum from Tipton. THIRD GRADE: We were studying harder than ever this year. We had different sub- jects and they seemed to get a little more difficult every year. This year was the same as usual. Our class was separated again with part of the students in Miss bitner's room and the rest of them went into Mrs. Vernerder's room. FOURTH GRADE: Well, it seemed to us that we were growing up. We had our recesses on the High School's side of the building now. This was really a treat. Also this year our class was together for the first time since we had started to school. Our teacher this year was Miss Isabella Gesaman. Our new comers this year were Phyllis Hart from Horace Mann, David Merryman from Riley, Junior Schilling and Paul Clark from Huntington Catholic. FIFTH GRADE: Our fifth grade went pretty fast with Mr. Garr Kitt room teacher, and teaching all our subjects except English. Miss Bitner and exchanged classes once a day so therefore we had Miss Bitner for English. in the class were getting interested in sports about this time. They their free time on the softball diamond. We had one new member added to this year. It was Max Schwob from Clear Creek. from Bippus, as our home Mr. Kitt The boys spent most of our class SIXTH GRADE: Our sixth grade went fast with only one new comer. This was Eve- lyn Biddle from Bippus. Our home room teacher was Miss Harriet Bitner now the Harriet Fleck. Mrs. SEVENTH GRADE: This was one of our big years. We elected class officers. They were: David Merryman, President and Don Snider, Vice-President. We had to pay dues of five cents to the class trsasurey. We also sold Pathfinder magazine subscriptions, and made some money from that. This was the beginning of our finances. Mrs. John- son was our home room teacher and Mrs. Clark taught history. Our class was blessed with one new member this year. It was Mae Wall from Markle. EIGHTH GRADE: Mr. Dale Pence was our teacher this year with Mrs. reading and English. We had our first hay-ride. Mr. Smyser took us all and then out to his place with a team and a wagon. Our Christmas Party Merryman's. Class Officers were as follows: Marilyn Smyser, Presidentg Vice-President, Mae Wall, Secretary-Treasurerg Our new additions to the Young teaching around town was at David Carol Brown, class were: Fred Hauenstein from Clear Creek, Katie Lash from Lincoln, and Anne Swain from Scio, Ohio. 15
