The original organization was eiected on the last day of school in 1928 by the class of '28. The following oficers were selected at that time: President, Heaston Fleming: Vice-President. Mary Bruss: Secretary-Treasurer, Cyril Day. Much credit is due these three individuals for the continued success of the organization. The first Friday night after the Sectional Basketball Tournament has been reserved for the alumni organization banquet. For the past several years the members of the graduating class of the current year have been invited as guests of honor at the banquet. A friendly competitive spirit has been aroused between the alumni organization and the school in the form of basketball and baseball con- tests. During the past year the alumni teams pushed the varsity teams to the limit in both basketball and baseball before the varsity teams were able to eke out a victory in each case. It is probable that in the future this rivalry may include debates as well. The alumni have shown their loyalty to the school in many ways. The interest shown by them has encouraged the organizations within the school to function to the best of their ability. The alumni members have also supported the school functions financially and have thereby made their success possible. May this harmonious relationship continue to grow as the alumni group increases in size and the school continues to function from year to vear. The 1934-35 officers as pictured on the opposite page are as follows: President, Dale Ware: Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Smith: Vice-President, Paul Byrd. POST GRADUATE COURSES The officials and teachers of the Huntington Township High School have been very glad to offer additional work to graduate students. Each year a few students have taken advantage of this opportunity. The stu- dents who have taken work during the year 1934-35 are pictured on the opposite page: Lee Waltz, Urshel Heiney, and James Barnes. nn u++l ln 'P+ Alumni Post Graduates llu ull lm ml ml Illl ll!! +I Illl ull nn ull Mu llll Activities MEDITA STAFF Editor-in-chief . . . . Athletics The opening of the baseball season starts the athletic functions at Huntington Township. The two leading athletic sports at Township are basketball and baseball. Since football and track are not included in the athletic sports, two baseball seasons are scheduled, one in the spring and one in the fall. An added interest has been taken toward baseball since the organiza- tion of a County Baseball League, in which all county teams compete. The coaches of the various teams meet and plan a schedule so that each school plays a certain number of games at a specified date. There are also rules and regulations to govern the teams that are members of the League. A baseball trophy is presented to the school winning in the County League games. The trophy is a circulating one, unless a team wins it three COllS9Clltl'.'Q years, under which condition the team's school keeps the trophy. Township has won the County League trophy two consecutive years and is hoping for another victory next fall. Plans are also being made to hold a baseball tournament in the spring each year. With the completion of the baseball season the interest centers around basketball. The basketball season always attracts much attention from the students, especially the ones who try out for the varsity team. The basketball season gets underway during the latter part of October and ex- tends to the last of February. No team is allowed to play more than twenty games during a season. A Noon League was formed for the boys who were not fortunate enough to make the first or second team. Any boy who is not a member of the first or second teams is eligible to play in the Noon League if he cares to do so. The games in the Noon League are played during the noon period every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The girls' basketball team was not organized this year, due to the fact that a sufficient number of coaches of the county schools could not meet the requirements that are necessary before they are allowed to coach. Therefore, a Noon League basketball team was also organized for the girls. These games are played during the first part of the noon period. When the basketball season was completed and the Sectional Tourna- ment was over, the students turned their attention to the class tourna- ment, the first two weeks of March. A keen rivalry exists among the various classes of the school, and the class tournament caused much ex- citement among the students. The closing of the spring baseball season draws the curtain on the athletic activities, and they are laid aside until the opening of the school term the following year. . ...g..g.u Baske tba! After the agreement was made to consolidate the township schools, Trustee Heaston selected and purchased the land upon which the school now stands. The building was begun in 1922 and on Sept. 3, 1923, the consolidated school was opened to the children of the township. Mr. Heaston was succeeded by John M. Roush and then by Dale Kreigh. Constructive changes and improvements in the school plant and curri- culum were made during these administrations. The school's first principal was Rex Potterf. He was followed by Thomas H. Mahan, under whom the first class Qthree membersl was graduated in 1925. The building was enlarged during his administration. Paul C. Updike and Herman I. Shultz followed in order as principals. A marked difference may be seen in the school of twelve years ago and today. Transportation facilities are outstanding among the changes. Com- mercial subjects, Agriculture, Shop, Home Economics, Debate, and Drama- tics have been added to the curriculum. The Athletic Teams have gained recognition throughout the county. The present enrollment is 557 as com- pared to 348 in 1923. Yes, the school has advanced, for the spirit is there and can not be broken. May we advise the underclassmen to keep that spirit kindled, that the efforts of those who built and improved the school shall be rewarded, that the Dreamer's Dream may be realized. nn lm lliplitn nll u . i. ..g..g.. ....
