Dave Shane, Jim Deger. VN X 1 N f N, . rg as A Ula uxx 1 il '-S '-'Y' X ' l DAVE SHANE Class President Class of W'4'l Dave Shane, live wire president of the class of S'47, heads one of the most active and energetic groups to graduate from Sparta in recent years. The class shines in nearly all fields, and had the largest number in Scholarship So- ciety of any graduating class in the history of the school. Lee Stump acted as vice-president, and was in charge of the gift. Claralee Guithues served as secretary, and took minutes of each meeting. Collection of dues and han- dling of financial matters was done by Jim Deger, treasurer. In charge of field day was Barton Terrell, sergeant-at-arms. Highest honor awarded in the class was that of Ephebian. Seven members from the class were chosen for this recognition: Joanna Craun, Jim Deger, Ted Fairbroth- er, Shirley Hill, Lora Steele, Betty Tanner, and Jack Vollmer. A full semester of activities highlighted the Spartans' stay in Huntington Park. Parties, dances, picnics and various other outside activities brought out real class spirit. Commencement exercises with a 'modernistic theme, Our Challenge, were cen- tered about the works of Lincoln. twenty-si.1: Senior ioflicers, first row: Lee Stump, Claralee Guithues, Barton Terrill.
