Junior Class History After a glorious summer filled with many hours of relaxing and recuperating, twenty-nine jolly Juniors hustled into good old Number Three. It was quite a surprise to find a tiny elf with a queer foreign accent making herself comfortable in one of the desks. It's Patsy Kelly, the newcomer from Port Jervis. Lucky girl, she was just in time to join the big parade. After getting acquainted, Patsy took her place on Float Three and everyone was rarin' to start the parade of the year. Leading the parade is Sister Amadeus, back again as class sponsor. Directly following our leader is Float Number One on which we find five fair ladies, the class officers: Joanne Weber, president Joan Bartrom, secretary Doloros Flhinger, treasurer Jean Anne Klepper, business manager and Doris Ufheil, council member. On their finger we see something gold and flashy. You guessed it, they just received their class rings and they couldn't overlook this opportunity of showing them off. In the Number Two spot we find the Pageant of Champions. This float displays the different championships won by the class of '50. The biggest item in the pageant is the C.S.M.C. victory. For the second straight year, the Juniors met the challenge of the other classes and successfully retained possession of the mission plaque. The second item of importance was the sweeping victory in the I.C.T. Led by Barbara Metz, Helen Prus and Shirley Carmichael, as cheerleaders, the Beetle-Bombs came through in a roaring finish to win this yearly event. We also have a Hall of Fame in this pageant where we find the Junior Ramblers, Jim Stoffel, the free throw champion, Greg Coughlin, Dean Joyal, Gene Buzzard, and Don Stoltz. The scenery for Float Number Three depicts the class motto, It's the Smile you Wear That Makes Sunshine Everywheren: the class patron, the Sacred Heart: the class colors, red and white, and the class fiowers, the red and white carnations. This float represents the different activities, such as the never-to-be- forgotten parties, the get-together, the exciting hay--ride and of course, the things that you have to take along with your good times, classes and exams. The spotlight of this float is focused on the biggest event of the year, the Junior-Senior reception. The entire evening was built around the U49-ers gold rush theme and the hall was decorated with covered wagons and other signs of frontier life. It will truly be remembered as the great evening. The fourth and final Hoat in our parade of the year is The Gratitude Float. In this presentation we wish to give thanks to the Ramblers for a successful season, the Beta Club for their enjoyable parties, the Junior sellers for the great work they did at the games, and last but not least to the faculty for their faith- ful co-operation and guidance. May we the Seniors of '50 Wish the present seniors success in all their undertakings and may we hope to follow the pattern they have set. Joanne Weber l 6

Sophomore Elass History The class of '51 began its second year at H. C. H. by a hearty enjoyment of the initiation of the Freshies at the annual Get-Together. On this day the Sophomores defeated the Juniors in a softball game by a score of 5-4. Shortly after, the class held its traditional hayride. After a very hilarious trip, the group finished the evening at Lawrence Scher's home and then took an excursion to Roanoke. Next came the basketball season with the Sophomores well represented on both the Ramblers and the Jay-Vees' teams. Then followed the I. C. T. On the morning of St. Patrick's Day the Schmoos came out victorious, and in the afternoon they showed up even better although they lost to the Juniors by the small margin of four points. Jim McNamara was awarded the Free-Throw Trophy for the best record on the Jay- Vees, and the Schmoos received medals for being runners-up. At present, many of the Sophomore boys are engaged in baseball practice. This is the first team organized in the history of the school. The Beta Club under the guidance of Sister Mary Clara has sponsored thus far a Hallowe'en, a Thanksgiving, and a Valentine party. Susan Johnson and Ruth Bir participated in the recent Regional Latin contest. The former tied for second place, and the latter won third place. A backward glance brings back pleasant memories of the past year with the fond hope that the com- ing years will be equally pleasant. I8
