Senior Class Prophecy Once upon a time in the Land of Believe Nothing of What You Hear and Only Half of What You See we chanced to see a pair of elfin ears protruding around the corner of a lollypop bush. On further inspection we discovered none other than Joe Hunnicutt. After a pulling session the was stuck to the bush! we persuaded him to take us on a Movietone tour of the land. But fearing the mighty hand of his queen, he whisked us OH to the ice-cream castle of Good Queen Buzz where we were led into court by the Lady in Waiting, Joan Ley,-on roller skates, no less. We quickly explained to her majesty, who sat on a throne of chocolate creams, our plight-we had fallen through the famous puddle in front of St. Pete's. She took pity on us and offered to take us on a tour of her Kingdom before we must return home. From the gold encased windows of her highness' chocolate-covered carriage, which coacliman Bernie Parker commanded with the air of a Buick driver we saw: Ivan Strass practicing for the Olympic Hockey games while Mary Ann Bickel was perfecting her famous Swan Dive. Lifting our eyes upward we gazed at a gaudy marquee proclaiming Joanne Thompson as the new leading lady opposite Tom Stoffel in that startling modern drama, Shakespeare's Hamlet We couldn't miss perceiving the flashy sign of the Blue Angel headlining that sensational blues singer, the one and only, Lorraine Machall with that fascinating dance team, Pat Eckert and Suzanne Hart, filling out the second half of the bill. A Hash of lightning-a bolt of thunder and who did we see overhead but that magic carpet demonstrator, Fritz Gill with his competent and pretty stewardess, Corrinne Lan- drigan. A mellow voice drifting from a hot dog stand soon overcame us and we turned, only to be dazzled by Pablo Godfroy crooning Blue Tail Fly to his adoring customers. Literally, tearing ourselves away from this scene we heard a loud charm school under the auspices of the Misses Aufty, Rusty, and Ruthie. Under the sign of the Ferd Meehan Super Market we saw Vice-President Max Geyer, in charge of all menial tasks, dusting off the sidewalk. In the park, that original and creative designer, Phyllis Young was at it again with glamorous Towers Models, Virginia Siemik and Glenna Claus. Still farther on we recognized Ed Ehler supervising the landscaping of the new Municipal Swimming Pool, with his engineer, Tom Scher. Stopping at the corner drugstore we found proprietoress, Joan McNamara discussing plans for her new shop with interior decora- tor, Karl Reinhart. We chatted with Margie Yaste who was relaxing at the counter after a hard day's work as Community Nurse. Upon dashing out the door we collided with Joan Johnson who informed us that she is secretary to Don Saluke, executive head of the diaper industry ihe's almost got it pinned up! J. Rolling along once again we saw Hilda Johnson playfully amusing her small charges in the front yard of her nur- sery school. Then a familiar sight met our eye-Mary Ellen Stoffel wielding the gavel at the National Out- door Convention of the Beta Club. Yes, a mere prophecyg maybe a hypothetical nightmare of no consequence, with no strings for a fu- ture. Yet maybe these few fantastic make-believes, will be the necessary link to spur them on to the fulfill- ment of their goal in life! Jean Ann Klepper Jackie Ferris M5011 9 Elass History ln the year 1945, thirty-five bewildered Freshmen fastened our first wheel to our covered wagon as we started over our four-year journey across the plain of knowledge. At the reins was our own capable and lovable, Sister Clara. The first hardship we encountered was the attack of the 1946 tribe of Seniors on the day of initiation. We stood the test and wandered through the Virgin Forest overcoming any obstacle that met our path. On the outskirts of the forest was a small village and there we stopped to chat and learned that our driver was to be changed and that we were to add our second wheel. This lap of our journey was made more pleasant and somewhat smoother over the bumps owing to the fine driving of Sister Ermenilde and our new- found ability to make friends. Many a spoke was broken and many a stop made for repairs, but through the dauntless courage of driver and passengers alike, we managed to add another wheel to our covered wagon. Sister Ermenilde relinquished her position as head of the caravan and Sister Jane Frances took over for the rest of the trip. After coming this far through the wilderness, we decided to have a celebration. The wagon ahead paused in their almost completed journey to enjoy our party in honor of their farewell. At this point we added our fourth wheel, tightened the hubs of the other three, and proceeded to- ward the last lap with our former driver. This part of our trip was the most eventful especially the tremen- dous victory over the enemy tribe of Vikings. After proving ourselves Worthy of such a feat, we felt no obstacle too great. Feeling the need for a change of scenery we snuck off into another part of the wilderness. This day will long be remembered in years to come. The end of our journey is in sight and as we review the past, there is a feeling of regret for the precious years left behind, but our wagon is complete and each of us looks forward with hope and faith in God, as we head out through the vast regions of life. ' Junior Class History After a glorious summer filled with many hours of relaxing and recuperating, twenty-nine jolly Juniors hustled into good old Number Three. It was quite a surprise to find a tiny elf with a queer foreign accent making herself comfortable in one of the desks. It's Patsy Kelly, the newcomer from Port Jervis. Lucky girl, she was just in time to join the big parade. After getting acquainted, Patsy took her place on Float Three and everyone was rarin' to start the parade of the year. Leading the parade is Sister Amadeus, back again as class sponsor. Directly following our leader is Float Number One on which we find five fair ladies, the class officers: Joanne Weber, president Joan Bartrom, secretary Doloros Flhinger, treasurer Jean Anne Klepper, business manager and Doris Ufheil, council member. On their finger we see something gold and flashy. You guessed it, they just received their class rings and they couldn't overlook this opportunity of showing them off. In the Number Two spot we find the Pageant of Champions. This float displays the different championships won by the class of '50. The biggest item in the pageant is the C.S.M.C. victory. For the second straight year, the Juniors met the challenge of the other classes and successfully retained possession of the mission plaque. The second item of importance was the sweeping victory in the I.C.T. Led by Barbara Metz, Helen Prus and Shirley Carmichael, as cheerleaders, the Beetle-Bombs came through in a roaring finish to win this yearly event. We also have a Hall of Fame in this pageant where we find the Junior Ramblers, Jim Stoffel, the free throw champion, Greg Coughlin, Dean Joyal, Gene Buzzard, and Don Stoltz. The scenery for Float Number Three depicts the class motto, It's the Smile you Wear That Makes Sunshine Everywheren: the class patron, the Sacred Heart: the class colors, red and white, and the class fiowers, the red and white carnations. This float represents the different activities, such as the never-to-be- forgotten parties, the get-together, the exciting hay--ride and of course, the things that you have to take along with your good times, classes and exams. The spotlight of this float is focused on the biggest event of the year, the Junior-Senior reception. The entire evening was built around the U49-ers gold rush theme and the hall was decorated with covered wagons and other signs of frontier life. It will truly be remembered as the great evening. The fourth and final Hoat in our parade of the year is The Gratitude Float. In this presentation we wish to give thanks to the Ramblers for a successful season, the Beta Club for their enjoyable parties, the Junior sellers for the great work they did at the games, and last but not least to the faculty for their faith- ful co-operation and guidance. May we the Seniors of '50 Wish the present seniors success in all their undertakings and may we hope to follow the pattern they have set. J 'f-5 I c i if W 0 2 - r 6.51 Sophomore Elass History The class of '51 began its second year at H. C. H. by a hearty enjoyment of the initiation of the Freshies at the annual Get-Together. On this day the Sophomores defeated the Juniors in a softball game by a score of 5-4. Shortly after, the class held its traditional hayride. After a very hilarious trip, the group finished the evening at Lawrence Scher's home and then took an excursion to Roanoke. Next came the basketball season with the Sophomores well represented on both the Ramblers and the Jay-Vees' teams. Then followed the I. C. T. On the morning of St. Patrick's Day the Schmoos came out victorious, and in the afternoon they showed up even better although they lost to the Juniors by the small margin of four points. Jim McNamara was awarded the Free-Throw Trophy for the best record on the Jay- Vees, and the Schmoos received medals for being runners-up. At present, many of the Sophomore boys are engaged in baseball practice. This is the first team organized in the history of the school. The Beta Club under the guidance of Sister Mary Clara has sponsored thus far a Hallowe'en, a Thanksgiving, and a Valentine party. Susan Johnson and Ruth Bir participated in the recent Regional Latin contest. The former tied for second place, and the latter won third place. A backward glance brings back pleasant memories of the past year with the fond hope that the com- ing years will be equally pleasant. C. H. The general query of these greenies was Where do we go from here? After becoming accustomed to the general routine we had smooth flying with Sister M. Aquinina as our pilot. Our first stop was Christmas vacation. We then continued our flight with a new pilot. This time it was Sister M. Egfrieda. The Get-To-Gether, the school parties, the class and sodality hayrides, and the skating parties were all parts of the freshies' many activities. Although the Freshies didn't win the I. C. T. we all realized the great possibilities of our team. We are especially proud of Dick Shores for taking the sportsmanship award and making the all-tourney team, and also of Fred Eckert for making the all-tourney team. We also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Bob Keefe for placing first and John Gibler placing second in the Algebra contest. Since we have recently been enrolled in the Fighting 69th, an organization fighting for the 6th and 9th commandments, we feel we have lived up to our motto, Green But Growing, physically, mentally, and morally. 20 Bob Keefe Mary Welches Dick Shores Paul Abbot Marilyn Amick Bob Casper Patty Christman Carole Davis Charlotte Eckert Fred Eckerf l . lu' . i 1' Y Arthur Ehinger l E3 1, xfhmy Nancy Fisher ' Andrew Friedman f in David Gamble 1 I ff' Dorothy Goss John Gibler Florence Gill Mary Elizabeth Hammond Jane Hart Hilda Holzinger Shaltha Kiefer Virginia Holzinger ...P l Rosemary Kilty Marjorie Landrigan Marilyn Ley Rosemary Maples Mary Jane McNulty John Ness Stanley Nicholson Tom Nicholson Tam Scheer Bob Scheiber Carol Young Y i Hamhler Staff Editor-Suzanne Hart, Co-editors-Corinne Landrigan, Glenna Claus, assisted by Virginia Siemik and Phyllis Aufdenkampe, who after much pasting and repasting, made the model dummy that was to be sent to the printers. ' :' I THE MANAGERS Bernie Parker Artie Ehinger Louie Scher Senior Manager Junior Manager Junior Manager THE RAMBLERS Left to Right: Tom Scher, Jim Stoffel, Pat Landrigan, Don Stoltz, Gene Buzzard, Greg Coughlin, Charles Hammond, Pat Eckert, Jim McNamara, Larry Godfroy, Dean Joyal, Paul Kline Sectional The Ramblers thrilled four thousand fans as they copped their first sectional basketball tourna- ment. Larry Godfroy sparked the victory as they won the Iirst sectional in the seven years Huntington Catholic has participated in the I.H,S.A.A. The Irish waded through the tough bracket of the Sectional beginning by tripping Warren 63-33 in the opening game, and continued by besting Roanoke in a thriller, 113-41. Huntington Catholic beat Jeffer- son of Whitley in the semi-final tilt. The evening game will never be forgotten as it had every thrill and chill in the books. The score was knotted time and time againg after the half it appeared that the Vikes were headed for victory. Godfroy, Landrigan, Buzzard, Stoltz, Coughlin, Stoffel and Hammond thought differently. With Coach PeGan guid- ing them to the best advantage, the Rams ousted the Vikings, 41-39. The score was knotted at 39 when Larry stole the ball in mid-court and drove under for the winning basket. 37 Hanihler Eames 1949-1949 Varsity November 10 set the scene for the season's first thriller. Although the team had rather ragged ball-handling at times, those who saw them play, said they had the makings of a good team. We downed Clear Creek 35-32. We retrieved our lanrels from Monmouth by outclassing them 34-21. The Ramblers tasted their first defeat against Lancaster who had one of the hottest nights of the season. They still couldn't win without fighting through a double overtime. The Decatur game was the first game of the season you didn't have to sit on the edge of the bleach- ers. The regulars made quick work of them and left time for the subs to get valuable experience. We traveled to Pierceton, December 3, to subdue a rugged quintet with our small men taking the worst physical beating, but still winning out in the end. The Ramblers meant business from the first whistle as they met Roanoke. They maintained a lead through the final three quarters of play. Larry Godfroy had been carrying the brunt of our offensive threat up to this time, but Pat Landrigan pulled through with his share of the markers in this game. The weekend contest proved disasterous for the Township Bearcats. Larry Godfroy had a great night by stealing the ball, outrunning them and scoring before they had realized what had happened. The following Wednesday the Irish got up enough steam to overpower Concordia for the first time in several years. The Rams made it five straight as they defeated North Manchester 46-35, making it a seemingly annual occurrence. The Irish traveled to the Summit City during the Christmas season for a four way meet on Central Catholic's hardwood. They got set back in the afternoon, but came through at night to defeat a tall Mich- igan City Five. After two weeks of rest the Ramblers shot back into action by dropping the Bippus Tigers as their victims. The Rams were at their best in the first period and Kenny swept the bench clean before the finish of the third period. Next, the Ramblers sent Columbia City home on the short side of the ledger as we defeated them for the second year. The Irish used a set style of offense and alertness on defense which helped in the victory. Huntington Catholic lost a heart-breaker to Hammond Noll at the Civic Center, when they tied the score at the third quarter and maintained a lead at the automatic time out. Don Stoltz and Pat Landrigan left the game on personals and Larry Godfroy and Gene Buzzard were handicapped with four each. Ham- mond edged out in the dying moments of the game. The Rams seemed to be in a slump as the Andrews Cardinals blemished their record for the fourth time of the season. The Irish attained their stride again by blasting the Warren Lightning Five. The local gentlemen got a head start in the first quarter and strengthened it at every possible chance. On Friday both teams hustled onto the bus and headed for the capital city. Indianapolis Sacred Heart had tremendous height but, they were lowered to defeat. We set a good name for our team and our school. as we battled the backboard magnificently which netted us the victory. The Cubs from Monroeville gave us the worst blemish in three years. They hit from everywhere in the first half and continued to turn it on in the second. 38 HAMBLEHS SEUHE5 0 C 1: E it 1: 2, 5 C' 'z 2 F9 E fa E W 2 w S G 7, E 3 Q 7, 2 E S Pg cu 'fi U 'S un .1 cn 0 -1 m ra E ef Clear Creek 2 8 5 8 - 1 -- - - 35 Monmouth 8 3 0 20 1 - - - - - 34 Lancaster QHJ 8 6 9 14 1 0 - - - 41 Decatur Cath. 9 8 7 12 0 - - 0 - 49 Pierceton 10 5 6 16 .. - 1 - 51 Roanoke 6 9 6 10 0 ---- 38 Township 2 8 4 13 - - - - -- 34 Concordia 8 4 8 15 0 ---- 46 N. The junior varsity showed they had talent and would be on the starting five of the Rams in short time. They lacked needed height but Kline, Kindler, Shores and McNamara showed the way at times, even when odds were against them. Against Warren the Jay-Vees looked like a varsity squad as their scoring and ball-handling was al- most flawless. The real thriller of the year was against Andrews when in the second overtime, Paul Kline left loose ' h wit a two-handed shot behind center court which won the ball game. 40 Autographs Autographs Memories '1 he kindness of many d'rum merchants of Huntingttm has help-ed to make this book of memories a possibility.
