ANDERSON SCOTT FLANAGAN Assistant Administrator Vice Principal ADMINISTRATION Increased enrollment is only one of many problems that form a tower before our administrators. All difficult situations find their way to the desks of these men who are fast becoming experts in dealing with them. Although new to their positions as superintendent and vice-principal, Mr. Lance and Mr. Flanagan, along with their assistant administrator, Mr. Anderson, have successfully removed this tower. GERALD LANCE ' Superintendent 1 l couNsEl.oRs l I T f Also facing the tower of more students and with them more guidance problems were our counselors. To help solve this 5 1 problem and to help fill vacancies three l new counselors were added, one for each class. They have worked tirelessly to con- quer their tower and to help us. K VARSITY FOOTBALL New head coach Vern Vallercamp and new line and backfield coaches Ken Moats and Ken Duddridge formed one of the best spirited Oiler teams in many years. H.B. after weeks of hard practice fielded a small, but rugged team that dumped Laguna Beach 26 to 12 in their opening game of the season. The Oilers were then struck by the flu bug, but managed to battle Tustin to a 7 to 7 tie. The following week the Oilers, underdogs by 3 touchdowns, met Santa Ana and turned the tables with a 26 to 7 victory over the Saints. Puente forfeited to Huntington because of flu, so the Oilers scheduled a game with Paramount in which H.B. was trounced 34 to 6. Lady Luck turned the next three weeks into nightmares as the Oilers were beset with many iniuries and dropped their next three league games to Anaheim 34 to 6, Newport I9 to 7, and Fullerton 26 to O. After four defeats in a row the spirited H.B. team was taped together and blasted the Highlanders of La Habra 34 to i8 for their second league victory. The Oilers going into the last game needed a victory to tie for third place, but they met a strong team in Garden Grove which clipped the Oilers i2 to 6. The Varsity Gridders with their l67-pound line and l43- pound backfield ended the season with a 4 win, 5 loss and i tie record and fifth place in the Sunset League. BEE FOOTBALL Losing most of the '56 squad to the varsity ancl J.V. the T957 Oiler bees went through a period ot re- building. The middle-weights at- tained a mediocre record with two wins and seven losses. Although this isn't too impressive, many of these boys, having mastered the funda- mentals this year, will fill the shoes of graduating varsity men.
