ffl qoreword by Qresident CZQ7alter QD. Agnew During the last Week of His ministry, the Master was spending a day at the house of Simon in Bethany, when there came a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment. As an expression of love for her Master she poured it upon His head as He sat at meat. Critics Who were Watching in the offing said among themselves, To what purpose is this Waste? This ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor. The Master said, She has Wrought a good work upon me- . . . Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole World, there shall also this that this woman hath done be told for a me- morial of her. The staff of Bells and Pomegranates has brought forth this beauti- ful publication as an expression of love, admiration and appreciation for their Alma Mater. Unkind critics may say now, as they did of old, To what purpose is this elaborate and expensive display in times like these ? There must ever be from year to year some artistic and beautiful Way of expressing in material form the feelings of the children for their Alma Mater. Here we have it! This monograph embodies a wonderful symbolism. It symbolizes the material and objective beauty of the build- ings and their artistic setting in a lovely campus. It symbolizes the rich- ness of the life and fellowship of the students and faculty in all the as- sociations of their happy though busy days. It symbolizes the purity and loftiness of the ideals of the institutio-n which it represents. It is thetlalabaster box, the precious gift of the young Women to their benign mo er. May this volume, with all its artistic excellence, convey to every reader of its pages the message couched in its beautiful symbolism.
