SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY .J Vienna, Austria, May, 5, 1950. Dear Catherine:- I'm so excited I can hardly write! This afternoon I was going through the Uni' versity of Vienna and who should I chance to meet but Edwin Recker, the eminent scientist, who showed me his newest invention. It works something like television only instead of speaking you concentrate on the name of the person or thing you wish to see and immediately the picture is flashed before your eyes. I was very curious to discover what my classmates of '33 were doing, Cf course we know what some of them are doing as there are quite a few who have won world wide recognition. There's Glenn Arensman who holds vast audiences spellfbound by his violin, and Kenneth Brown who has easily taken the place once held by Rudy Vallee and Bing Crosby, as a crooner. You must admit that we both have a weakness for listening to Ray and Roy Bleinker who now hold the place once belonging to Amos 'n Andy in the radio world. And by the way, did you know that R. F. McDaniel is now quite a wellfknown director of western pictures in Hollywood? Strange, isn't it when we all thought he'd probably be a poet? Naturally, I know you and Hubertina are secretaries to Kenneth Day, president of the United Cobweb Stock of America. But, to get back to this screenf The first person I thought of was Glenn Songer ,who did so nobly as class presif dent. The screen told me that he is naw a big league baseball player, and that he is living in New York with his wife, formerly Roma Garland. Eunice Hamelman and Ida Mae Bath, it seems, are heads of a quite famous school of Physical Culture in Boston, and Sam Beebe is selling lemonade with BarnumfBailey's Circus. Pauline Aufderhar is a well known flyer, who has contributed much to furthering aviation, while her cousin, Anita, is married to Sam Faris, who is head of the Farm Bureau in Kansas and is doing a great deal for the farmers in the west. Speaking of farming reminds me that Cecil and Davis Enlow are making their marks as farmers back near the old home town ancl are quite inseperable. They have never married. Gladys Rohleder is another who has not forsaken I'Iun'ingburg and she is still quite happily married, while Lee Lemond, married to Lucille Dearing, lo these many years, is quite a famous criminal lawyer in Chicago. Adolph Frick, I found, acts as interpreter to the immigrants at Ellis Island, while Franklin Mundy's name is dear to the hearts of those who love their food as he is owner of a famous chain of restaurants reaching all over America and Canada, not to mention Europe. Lorraine Stein and Evelyn DeBruler have sacrihced much as nurses in foreign fields, while Mildred Miller is a math teacher back in the dear old H. H. S. Wilma Brown has married, and is living som: place out west, I couldn't tell just where. Ambrose Steltenpohl and Victor Peters are somewhere in Palestine, exploring for the National Geographic Society, and Frederick Limp travels with them as a physician. Odean is married to Herbie, of course we all expected that, while Harold Schmutzler is quite a success as the owner of several chain furniture stores. Mary Louise is also married, but I couldn't discover to whom. She was living in Florida, I believe, and her husband seemed to be quite wealthy. That is all I thought of for the screen to reveal, but I certainly was grateful for its aid. By the way, while in London last week, I dined at the home of Geneva Struck' man. now Lady Moneywell, you know, and while there I met Harold Barth, worldls champion billiard player. I-Ie told me that Geneva Langebrake is fast becoming a power in the missionary world, and that Kent Patberg is a gigolo, much in demand by the Parisian ladies. While in London I danced at the Savoy to that well known dance orchestra owned by Dorcy Daunhauer and Herman Steltenpohl, and Charles Finke was its leader. For a moment I was so suprised I could hardly dance. Well, to go on with the story, Gervase Muller was the pilot of the passenger plane in which I flew from London to Vienna. I was quite surprised to see him. I told you, didn't I. that I'm letting Bernice Short do over my'apartment while I'm gone? I, as well as many others, find her work as an interior decorator, quite delightful. Well, I believe that takes care of all our old classmates of the class of '33. Who would have thought way back then that we would all be doing what we are today? As ever, Alice. Page Sixteen
