1929 THEOPTIMIST Music INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC The department of instrumental music has, for many years, been under the direction of Mr. Koenig. This department consists of orches- tra. band and drum corps, three organizations that have long been popular with students and community. The work of Mr. Koenig in this depart- ment has been outstanding in many ways, contributing toward a fine de- velopment of the musical appreciation of the entire community. The development of this taste for the beautiful in melody, harmony, and rhythm, is one of the features of education which no community can afford to neglect. The girls' drum corps is the newest organization. The members are seen in their bright uniforms at all the ball games, and their marches and drills are very beautiful. This corps consists of eight members. GLEE CLUBS The Glee Clubs, under the direction of Miss Sloan, have rendered some very entertaining programs this year. The outstanding program was a musical comedy, f'Purple Towers . The Glee Clubs have taken part in convocations, in the Christmas musical program, and in the annual National Music Week program.
