Success was captured in academics where we grew in knowledge, in sports where we found chal- lenging rivals, in organizations where we gained leadership and valuable experience, and in meeting fellow classmates where we acquired lasting friendships. Although the year is over and we have succeeded in many things, it is only the begin- ning of our success. We have gleaned. After an evening of dancing, Bill Lucas and Sue Buckmaster were crowned king and queen. Terry Howdyshell, John Dennison, Roy Wells, Connie Neuhouser, Cindy Parrish, and Penny Richards were named to the court. The after-prom party was held at the Hoagland Hayloft this year. Playing for the party were the Threats, a Huntertown group. Here some Juniors are dancing the night away. In the pictures below we see the Threats playing for the after-prom party. In the lowest picture, it looks as if Dan Freck and Tony Martin are ready for refreshments at the prom. A toast at the after-prom party. . . .pop, of course. The after-prom party is lively despite the hour. RIDERS TO THE SEA Marie Roberson mourns over her dead son as Sue McComb and Karen Simon look on. Backstage: Make-up for Marv. Mr. Bruskotter directed the Senior English class in the writing of their terna papers which were on the philosophy of life of an author. The Sophomore classes, under his direction, were also given tasks. The Speech and Drama class gave speeches, performed plays and wrote original plays. The Juniors had their first experience in writing term papers and Mr. Helm chose the Supreme Court for their theme. Miss Ratliff kept the Sophomores and Freshmien busy with themes and tests. Rhonda Vinson, Jean Malcolm, Mark Helge, and Diane Potter look happy and relieved as they turn in term papers to Mr. Helm. Here Suzie Ringlet, and Suzi Cain do a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Suzie Ringlet, Suzi Cain, and Vicki Faylor look in- volved as they read lines from a play. 12 LAS CLASES DE ESPANOL Carolyn Scherrer, a Spanish II student, attempts to read a Spanish news- paper. In Spanish III the students are more active, as shown by Dan McComb. The Spanish classes under the direction of Mrs. Duff have been very active this year. In Spanish I the students learned the basic fundamentals. Spanish II students learned hovv to apply these fundamentals. Spanish III was a new addition to the Spanish department. In Spanish III the students went one step further and applied all the fundamentals they had learned in Spanish I and II. Mike Zehr shows how to conjugate a verb. 13 It ' s Physics and Terry Howdyshell looks determined to get his experiment right. Rats are traditional in Zoology and Karen Simon and Walter Green dissect theirs here. FROM GRASS ROOTS TO SQUARE ROOTS Kayleen Wiseman smiles broadly as she shows the ribbon she won for a first place in the Science Fair. Dorsun Holmes and Susan Mackel study a display at the Science and Industry Museum which the sophomores visit each year. 14 As Science and Math become more and more important in today ' s world our students are studying harder than ever. Under the capable direction of Mr. Miller students study the life sciences, Biology and Advanced Biology. Mr. Black teaches Chemistry and Physics as well as Advanced Math. Mr. Merryman begins students in their study in Freshman Algebra and Mrs. Alter teaches theorems and assumptions in Geometry. Alan Schmidt points out some difficult problems in Geometry as Vicki Snyder looks on. N SCIENCE AND MATH Oh, come now Kirk! Everyone knows that 2+2 doesn ' t equal 5 -- it ' s 6! (Or is it?) The slide rule often provides problems for advanced math students. Here Bill Lucas and Connie Newhouser study the enlarged slide rule for practice. 15 I- Students are busy learning the fundamentals in typing I. Carolyn Mills transcribes souie shorthand for her cla STUDENTS LEARN BUSINESS SKILLS Business students learn their trade under the direction of Mr. L ieberum for typing I, Mr. Fox for typing II and shorthand, and Mr. Sloffer for bookkeeping. These general business students are deep in thought as they solve one of their difficult problems. 1 6 Becky Anderson and Linda McBride study a map used in U. S. History. THEN - AND - NOW Learning to use his Citizenship , Tom Briggs helps Dave McComb with an assignment. Four skillful teachers bring the past and present into view for students. Mr. Holderman teaches Citizenship to the Freshmen. Miss Poling explores World History. Mr. Roberts teaches U.S. His- tory and also Government while Mr. Richey is another Government teacher. In a few years Chris Jenks and Larry Hess will be using that voting machine for serious busi- ness. Sponsored by THE STARLITE CAFE 17 The Home Economics girls prepared a delectable buffet luncheon during class, and then enjoyed the finished product. It looks marvelous ! ! ! Marcia Learned is receiving her Betty Crocker Award pin from Mrs. Hostetler. Marcia richly deserved this award. Congratulations, Marcia! AGRICULTURE AND HOME ECONOMICS Here are just a few scenes from the home economic department ' s fashion show en- titled Fashion Magic . 18 It may look like a messy job but Tom Briggs works a project in the Ag shop. Here Dennis Hobson works on a new project in shop. TRADES FOR THE FUTURE The Home Ec. department this year was under the supervision of Mrs. Hostetler and Mrs. Debets while Mr. Pfafman headed the Ag. department. The Home Ec. girls -were busy this year as they planned the annual style sho ' w. The Ag. department grew under the ne-w direction this year and was awarded many high honors. Out- standing students in the two depart- ments were Penny Richards, who won the coveted Crisco Award, and Bob Bowker, who was named Chapter Farmer of the year. Another useful trade learned in Ag is welding. Here a number of boys practice their knowledge. 19 Mr. Hall headed the Drafting and Industrial Arts departments. Under his leadership boys learned many new skills to be used later in life. Ed Hatch hnds Drafting so engrossing that he even studies during his lunch hour- -While eating! DRAFTSMEN USE DETERMINATION TO DESIGN Here Steve Hadley slaves over a tough problem ! Richard Dewitt sharpens some tools for more worl in Industrial Arts. Sponsored by WALT ' S IGNITION 20 The Guidance department under the direction of Mr. Mailers is a very important aspect of our school life. Besides giving tests and recording scores, he helps students with de- cisions pertaining to the future and our problems of today. Under the skillful direction of Mrs. Walsh, students learn about hues, lighting, and shading in the art de - partnrient. With their unique ideas, they produce interesting displays. Mr. Mailers is the director of our guidance department. Here he helps Barbara Ott make a college selection. ART AND GUIDANCE EiLchard Bonjour draws a landscape scene. This is just one of the many projects the class undertakes. June Fredrick is working hard on a pub- licity poster for one of the school plays. 21 BUILDING OUR BODIES In Physical Education and Health and Safety students learn the art of keeping their bodies well and strong. Miss Poling directs the girls in Physical Education while Mr. Gorsuch and Mr. Kindy lead the boys. Mr. Gorsuch also teaches the Health and Safety classes. Learning to give artificial respiration are Terry Sands and Bob Parrish. Ann Hosier demonstrates that a girl can play baseball too. Compliments of DUNTEN ' S GRINDING SERVICE 22 This year ' s Exploratory Teaching class grew to fifteen under the direction of Mrs. Hostetler. They studied new methods of teaching and, after a period of observa- tions, participated in various classes them- selves. They graded papers, made dis- plays, tutored students and sometimes even presented the lessons themselves under the supervision of the participating teacher. Here Bob Warner helps some grade school students with reading. STUDENTS TODAY TEACHERS TOMORROW Once in a while the Exploratory Teachers had a day off. They finished the season with an impres- sive 16 wins and 7 hard fought losses. They shard the A. C. A. C. crown with two other schools.
