Their reward comes after many hard hours of work. When they win they can be assured they deserve the honor. Our queens include the Hunter- town Fair Queen, the Band skating party queen, the FFA Chapter Sweet- heart, and the Citadel Queen. Congratulations to the girls who received the honors this past year!!!!! It lakes a lot of effort on the part of fair queen candidates to win. This year Sandra Rosenberry was honored. Linda Gump liad to sell lots and lots of skating party tickets to win this honor of band queen. She did a fine job. 1963-64 Royalty Is Featured Linda Malt was announced tlie FFA Chapter Sweetlieart after speiiding many extra liours workiiii; for the cause. Dave Wilkinson Phone Susie Clark smiles proudly as she should after being crowned the Citadel Queen. Her votes earned a lot of aid to the cost of putting out the yearbook. At the right Susie is shown being crowned by last year ' s queen, Nancy Pulvcr. Water Consultant 637-6248 11 Convocotions Give A Students A Different Point Of View Gary Hursh, Sam Gloyd, Bob Yates, Jenny Clark, and Tim Holmes participated in the Easter Convoca- tion, Were You There? Participants in the Christmas convocation were Gary Hursh, Steve Ruhl, Bruce Turner, Judy Fritz, Sam Gloyd, and Dean Fulk. A speaking choir told the story of the first Christmas. At Thanksgiving, Bruce Turner, Sandy Simon, and Gay Bailey returned as Pilgrims to visit Jenny Clark, one of today ' s teen- agers. 12 Everyday Life Is The Most Exciting At noon there is the usual rush to the lunch line. If you are lucky and can crowd, with- out getting caught, you can have a choice place to sit. At night we have our school sponsored dancer to attend. Tliey prove to be a lot of fun, especially the ones like the Hobo Hop eiven by theN.H.S. All through high school memories are being built, we remember the very impor- tant occasions such as the prom and banquet. But we remember most of all the fun we had just being with our friends and doing the usual things. Here on this page are shown some of the everyday happenings at Hunter- town High School. At noon there is ping pong, dancing in the gym and of course, there ' is always tiie sliudious group that spends their noon hours in tlie chemistry room. Ball games is one of our more favored activi- ties. Here our team is shown coming from tlie dressing room at one of our games at Leo. 13 L Speaking And Reading Open Many New Worlds VINCENT RUPP, English 10 and 12, Speech; B.S., Fort Wayne Bible College, Indiana University, Bowling Green State University. Juniors and Seniors arc kept busy with re- search papers the second semester. Here Jane Heck is using our library as a source for her paper. DONALD E. HELM. English, Social Studies; B.A. and M. A. , Butler University, Indiana University. English is a medium of communica- tion of ideas --whether it is used in speak- ing, reading or writing. It is the core of every class, from the first to the twelfth grade. Being able to express oneself in both oral and written work is essential for an all-around education, which is carried over in cveryoncs life. The speech class was kept busy with the all-school play, convocations, and two-plays given at the end of the school year. Here is a scene from It ' s Cold In Them Thar Hills which was given free of admission at the end of tlie year. Wayne Tliompson seems to think that notccards arc an absolute must in giving a speech. - 15 Science And Mofhemafics Steve Ruhl, Sam Gloyd, and Wayne HoUopeter look on with doubting grins, as Sidney Merriman and Gary Pul- fer try to ma e their new invention work. Oh, says Sue Sauder, This is a boy rat; not a girl rat. I knew it all the time, says Kathy. What are you two making? You know stills are illegal in Indiana. The question doesn ' t seem to bother Sandy Rosenberry or Chuck Logar. VAUGHN MILLER, Biology; B.S. , M.S. Purdue University; Indiana University, and Ball State. WILLIAM H. WOODS Math, Physics, and Chemistry; B.S. Education, Oakland City College and Colorado State Teach- ers College. Range From Bisections To Dissections MRS. HELEN ALTER, A. B. Barbara Ruhl and Larry Brown investigate the internal structure of the frog by first dissecting. The junior math class works tirelessly on those ever-increasingly-difficult algebra problems. Mrs. Alter assists Wally Melching on constructing and bisecting a circle as the remainder of the class oDserves. Compliments of LASSUS BROTHERS ' - 17- Students Strive To Master Second Language DONNA M. DUFF, English 9, Spanish; B.A., Wheaton College, Olivet College, and Indiana University. LUaNDA ENLEY, Librarian, A,B., Indiana University and Indiana State Teacher ' s College, Nancy Pulver, Cindy Pairish and Sherry Maxine make Spanish seem as easy as English. Maybe that ' s becaue they ' re faking us out. Maybe that ' s not Span- ish at all! Students Explore The Teaching Field Barbara Arnold, a future teachet, prepares and acquaints herself with the teaching profession by helping an elementary class to learn new words and read. Exploratory teaching is a new credit course in which students in their senior year of high school who plan to be teachers are allowed the opportunity of observing and participating with the regular classroom teacher. It offers the opportunity of helping the future teacher decide upon which level of children he wishes to teach. It also helps him decide whether or not the teaching profession is best for him. 18 Pat Wilkinson, Joyce Zehr, Mrs. Hostetler the instructor of future teachers, Bruce Dunwiddie, Jenny Clark, and Sidney MerrL- man look over some techniques of teaching. Social Studies Covers Cavemen To Rockets WILUS R. ROBERTS. Government, U. S. History, Sociology - Business Law; B,S. Manchester, M.S. Indiana University. In United States History class Tom Burns and Steve Bowser debate a national question. The Social Studies students at Huntertown do many things to gain knowledge of past and present happenings. These courses include freshman citizenship, sophomore world history, junior U.S. history, and senior government. World lUstory students are trying to set the world on fire. Here Tom Robertson makes an attempt as Sue Buckm aster plays lookout. Senior viovLrninent rln HARRY RICHEY, Government, General Science; B.S. , M. A. Manchester College, Indiana, Purdue University. visit courthouse. 19 _li_ aEUSiiUa-SKs Jk DON LIEBERUM, Business, 7th grade math; A.B. Manchester College. ARTHUR A. FOX, Business; B.S. Typing + Dicta f ion + Work Sheets - Frustrated Student Well, says Jerry Bowker, From the looks of these books they ' ll never know how much I embezzled. Gee wJiiz, this sounds like quite a line. I wonder who ' s the poor girl who receives it, says Judy Bicbcricii as sue writes. Typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping all com - bine to form a necessity in the modern business world. Typing involves a finger-tip method of placing information on paper. Shorthand provides a quick method of taking notes, and bookkeeping involves the handling of money. All in all, they formulate the background for the modern office worker. I liked the way my typewriter typed before, says Steve Bowser. Now it doesn ' t type at all. ■Compliments of WATSON ' S FLORAL SHOP -20- 7 Stan Scott is busily working on an art project. This year the art class had several outside activities such as scenery for the play and posters at tourney time. MRS. ANNA LEARNED. Music; A.B. . Evansville College, Indiana University, Indiana State Teacher ' s College. MRS. MAXINE WALSH, Art; B.S., Manchester College. Talent + Skill - Creative Art And Music Now, you ' re supposed to do it this way! Mrs. Learned instructs Terry Tucker, Dale Gongaware, and Carol McComb. Busy, busy, busy! Art Students, Mary McGraw, Joy McSridc, Ronnie Fender, and June Fredrick arc too busy to even smile for the birdie. 21- They Design And Monufocfure Their Ideas And Dreams A little more your way, Penny, says Phyllis Wells to Penny Richards while they learn the art of moving a bed patient in home nursing. The Junior and Senior home economics girls learn the do ' s and don ' ts of a successful hostess as they entertain the sophomore home economics girls. Here Barbara Smith serves Vicki Opliger some punch. MARGARET HOSTETLER, Home Economics, Family Living, Exploratory Teaching; B.S. Purdue. NAOMI PRICHARD, Home Economics; B.S. Ohio Wesley an University and Indiana University. The highlight of the home economics year is the annual style show, this year entitled Manne- quin Magic. Here Joyce Spangler displays her skills. Sewing can be fun, but oh, that never ending pattern marking! complains Carol Molargik. 22- HARRY H. HARRIS, JR., Vocation- al Agriculture, Jr. High Shop; B.S. Purdue, Micliigan State, Wisconsin State. M.S., St. Francis. Vocational agriculture in the school curriculum meets the needs oT students who are interested in engaging in tlic occupation of farming or who may possibly enter into related agricultural fields. Class- room study in this area is constantly being changed due to new developments in research. One large project the class undertook this year was the cementing of the farm shop floor. Teamwork is important in agriculture. Here Leslie Roberson guilds the equipment while Steve Tieman holds down the calf. Agriculfurol Training Makes Farm Leaders A little bit too heavy, Larry, says Dean Fulk, but Tim Maggert doesn ' t seem the least concerned. Ifagie iiyc Schlatter checks the scales as Joe Young looks on. -23 Physically And Menfolly Fit In Body And Skill Aw, come on boys let me in. I promise not to take your girls out anymore, pleads Mike Fitch. Precision and accuracy are important at all times as Vincent Cook draws a scale model of his subject. -24- CYRIL HALL, Drafting; B.S, M.S., Ball State Teacher ' s College. MILL CAROL POUNG, World History, Citizenship, Physical Education; B.S. , M. A. , Ball State Teacher ' s College. Archery is just a small part of the varied activities performed by the girl ' s gym classes. The skill of welding can lead to a worth- while career or pastime as it is mastered in the welding classes. m acaHL acanion The Pep Block And Cheerleaders Officers leading the newly organized Pep Club are as follows: Barb Arnold, President; Harvey Sands, Vice-President; Pat Fitch, Secretary; Pat Wilkinson, Treasurer. These three peppy girls, Rita Frazier, Cindy Benward, Ruthie Dickes led the B-team to many exciting victories. The cheerleaders led the newly organized Pep Club with new and exciting yells and energy to spare. Norma Stienbarger and Vickie Leis received trophies for their efforts this year, and Linda Gump and Pam Sigler received neck- laces with megaphones. Miss Poling sponsored both groups. Before the game some enthusiastic yells get the team off to a good start. Mrs. Otto began teaching forty-four years ago. She taught at Cedar Creek Grade School for four years before teaching at the Eel River -Perry Consolidated School. Mrs. Otto taught some junior high, but for most of her years she taught the third grade. She earned her degree in the early ' 40 ' s, and attended Ball State Teachers College, Tri- State College, and Manchester College. Through this dedication we salute Mrs. Otto and her many years of service. Why also do we dedicate the Citadel to you? BECAUSE you came through these doors at dawn, and didn ' t leave till dark, giving your day to youth- - at times not a very rewarding occupation, BECAUSE you helped to make this year of ' 64 the best ever, BECSUSE you were there when we needed you the most, we give to you the most precious gift we have to offer . . . the dedication of a year of work, a year of memories, MR. WILUAM WOODS, we dedicate our book to you. We would like to acknowledge and thank Mr. Harry Harris and Jefferson Studio for their help in the photography, Mr. William Woods for his time in the artwork, Artmaster Yearbooks for their cooperation, and the school administration and faculty for their understanding. - 116- ■ fei,A UtiJ I
