Editorial Staff Business Staff Reporters and Typists Black and Gold Flash In the fall of '48 we iind 30 seniors industriously working to put out their first newspaper. The first people we see as we approach are Charlene Smith, Editor. and Bob Horstmeyer, Associate Editor. Les Thomas, advertlsing manager and his assistants, Sally Whan and Iunior Houser. are on their way out to get ads. As we enter the typing roorn we find Ed Meyers, Pat Kelham, Betty Phillips, Don Smith, Bob Lutter, Mary Freeman, Imogene Barhydt, Ruth Opliger, and Barbara Mackey, the reporters and typists, faithfully pounding typewriters to get their stories in on time. We find in one corner Betty Fritz, News Editor and Phyllis Hurst, her assistant, arranging the front page of the Black and Gold Flash. We also see Norma Stirlen, Feature Editor, and her assistant, Lois Longenecker, writing feature stories and making up the feature page. The Art Editor, Romona Howard, is drawing some of those cute cartoons you see. As we leave the typing room we meet Ioan Schenher, Grades Editor, coming in with the grade news. Down the hall we see Bertha Ernerich, Gossip Editor, and her assistant, lean Shank, listening to a con- versation from which they hope to obtain some gossip. As we go past the gym we see lack McComb. Sports Editor, and Martha Dice. his assistant, trying to get some information from coach, Terry Coonan. At last the paper is off to press. When it comes back it will be distributed by Phil Dickes, Circula' tion Manager and George Dunten, his assistant. The proceeds will go to Clem Wetzel, Business manager and his assistant Sherry Witham, to be counted. It's quite a long story from the time the reporters get the first stories until the paper reaches the hands of the H. H. S. students, but by keeping busy and working hard these 30 seniors have made possible the Black and Gold Flash for 1948-49. BLACK AND GOLD FLASH STAFF FRONT ROW: B. Emrich, I. Schenher, R. Howard, I.
