MUCK TRIAL X x The Mock Trial Competition is sponsored each year by the New Jersey Bar Association in high schools throughout the state. The Bar Association distributes a case book in the fall containing the case to be tried, affidavits, documentation, and pertinent laws. Students selected for the team as attorneys must develop opening statements, direct examination questions, cross-ex- amination questions, and summations. Witnesses must be familiar with their sworn statements and provide credible answers when questioned by attorneys. The 1986-87 Mock Trial team consisted of attorneys Pam Nutlay, Debbie Rogow, William Mooney, and Andrea La- chenmayr. Witnesess were portrayed by Kristie Hailes, Me- gan Falk, Theresa Kistner, Adrian Witzke, Heather Smith, and William Mooney as the plaintiff. The team was coached by Mrs. Maureen Startzel and Mr. Dale Winget, a Fleming- ton Attorney. The competition combines critical thinking skills, writing skills, debate techniques, and dramatics. Furthermore, stu- dents benefit from becoming participants in the legal pro- cess rather than remaining in informed observers.
