Boys' Gymnastics The 1986 Boys, Gymnastics team had one of its best seasons in Hunterdon Central's history. The top Varsity crew consisted of Al Notarangelo, Chris Rovee, Dave Bausmith, Mike Kovi, Den- nis Hardenburg, Larry Lentine, Jason Belkov, and Rob Claus- nitzer. The gymnasts were ranked sixth in the state throughout the season. Red Devils worked to- gether to have successful wins over Cherry Hill East, Montclair and Columbiag overpowering them easily. They had a disap- pointing loss to Haddon Town- ship, because Chris Rovee was out due to a shoulder injury. The meet was still a close match with Haddon Township tallying a score of 1 13.95 and Central with a final score of 101.15. Other disappointing losses were to Arch rival East Brunswick and Middletown South left the boys with an impressive 10-4 record. In the State Level competi- tion, the Red Devils team fared very well. Competing on home territory, the team placed fifth with a final score of 11295, to improve their State ranking by one place. This is a exceptional score, considering Dave Baus- mith could not enter the All- around competition due to a hamstring injury. Dave Bausmith 158 was elected to the All-State first team, because of his first place performance on the still rings and second place on the parallel bars. Chris Rovee was elected to the All-state second team for his performance on the pommel horse. The last high school competi- tion was the NJISIAA Individual State Finals, to which six of Hun- terdon Centralfs gymnasts were sent to. Dave Bausmith compet- ed in all six events, as well as All- around. Chris Rovee also com- peted as an All-around and quali- fied for the floor and still rings. Teammates, Mike Kovi and Al Notarangelo competed on the vault, Dennis Hardenburg repre- sented the Devil's on the floor, while Rob Clausnitzer showed his strength on the horse. Although next years team will be primarily a young team, be- cause of graduating seniors, the team will still have some talented and dedicated athletes returning to make the Red Devil's a com- petitive team once again.
