Field Hockey The 1986 Field Hockey team had their most successful season yet. With a record of 12-6-1, this was the most wins ever in a sea- son. Also setting records this season was Nan- cy Stettner who led the team with 15 goals. Under the guidance of Coach Deborah Kli- ment, who returned this year, and Coach Kathy Kean as well as co-captains Mary Beth McCarthy, Sharon Fowler and Nancy Stettner, they showed they were a team to be contended with. Making it to the first round of states, the girls played tough, going into dou- ble overtime, yet in a disappointing loss, Middletown North prevailed 1-0. The team played their best game of the season against arch-rival North Hunterdon. Scoring the first goal of the game, Central certainly gave state ranked North some stiff competition. In other Mid-State action, Central easily bested a ma- jority of their competitors. Central had some individual stand-outs as well. Gaining Mid-State honors were Sharon Fowler, Sue Cooley, and Mary Beth McCar- thy for defense as well as Nancy Stettner and Heather Lassman for offense. The team was spirited, and they worked hard together, forming a camaraderie they will all remember. Although the seniors will be missed, Central has enough depth and returning Varsity player to make 1987 just as successful.
