The bandrnoved wiH1thefootbaH team into a tougher conference this year and played against some very good bands.Back4o-badcsrehearsak and a stronger morale spurred on by Director George Balog and Assistant Director Glenn Kaufman helped them to meet the challenge and come out on top many tunes The band also came out on top at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School's Pirate Invitational Competition on October 24th. They took first place in Class IV, defeating Hightstown and Sayerville, and came to within one point of receiving a second trophy for the best drum line. ThebandrecdvedraHngsof'exceHenf' at festivals at Piscataway and North Hunterdon earlier in October. The band took their music to Europe in March, playing at the Harrogate hnernaUonalBand FesUvaIh1Enghnd. Band lt was only last year that we saw Central's Red Devil Marching Band change its style and go into competition for the first time since the mid-7O's. Both undertakings were very successful, and this year the band made another leap forward, highlighted by a Presidential performance, a competition win, and a trip to Europe. Complete with their own Secret Service agent, but unfortunately off to the side of the TV cameras, the band played before, during and after President Reagan's visit to the San Genero Festival at the Flemington Fairgrounds on September l7th. 204fBand
