Renee Kostak, Paskes Shultis The I982 Varsity Field Hockey team had its most successful season ever, finishing the year with an Il-I-6 record. Led by senior co-captains Denise Venanzi and Lori Horton, the team faired will in the Mid-State Conference, capturing the Delaware Division crown. Seniors Jenny Alexion, Mary Walker, Cindy Wamsley, Nancy McCormack. Michelle Aimone, Linda Laneve, and Cindy Anderson and juniors Sue Gallagher and Lisa Liloia provided the offense for this year's team while seniors Gloria Jakubco, Horton, and Venanzi, and juniors Brigid Pfenninger, Tracey Zapko, and Kathy Cooper took care of the defensive, responsibilities. For the fifth year in a row, our girls made it into the Central Jersey Group IV Playoffs, but this year was special for them. Head coach Paula Petrie had coached the Devils to the number one seed in Central Jersey. ln their first state game, the team hosted eighth seeded East Brunswick and defeated them, 4-I. ln the semi-finals the Devils . met up with arch rivals North Hunterdon for the third time during the season and it was here that the girls suffered their first and only loss, losing l-O to the Lions in overtime. Although Central loses over half of their Varsity squad, there are quite a few experienced juniors along with the support of a strong junior varsity team. The I982 Field Hockey team proved to the Mid-State Conference that they were not meant to be taken lightly. The I983 squad has the ability to continue this tradition. Field Hockeyfl5l
