1982 The Class of 1982: Newsmakers at Central This .I une marks the culmination of four years of excitement, hard work, and individual changes for members of the class of 1982. The experiences we've had in our varied activities and studies have added many headlines to the news. Freshman year found us traveling through Hunterdon County in search of rocks and fossils on the science field trips, reading the trage- dy Romeo and Juliet in English, and studying great Americans in history. Members of our class made front page news when they partici- pated in the marching band trip to Europe. Our wrestlers had a win- ning season and were named DRC champs. The lower-school play, Go Ask Alice, was a successful pro- duction, and The Lamp received a first place rating from the Columbia Press Association. As sophomores, we left the seclu- sion of the Freshman House and joined the juniors and seniors in the upper school. Here, we had the op- portunity to invest as stockholders and to debate as foreign diplomats in history classes. Once again, Shakespeare was part of the English curriculum with the reading of Macbeth, as was S. I. Hayakawa and his study of linguistics. Travel- ing to the Fieldhouse for physical education became part of the every- day routine. The boys' and girls' cross country teams made news that year, as they were both undefeated - the girls went on to win the Group IV title. Wrestlers were also crowned Group IV champs, and girls' J V field hockey and basketball were both undefeated. The lower school presented the play Don't Drink the Water, and the musical Li'l Abner was performed to sel- lout audiences. Our schedules became more di- versified in our junior year, as each individual considered his own plan for the future. Hunterdon Central made headlines, as we observed the silver anniversary. Also in the news were the girls' basketball team and the varsity baseball team, both win- ning DRC titles. Cheerleaders were awarded first place in a DRC com- petition. The musical Oklahoma was a tremendous success, and the Thespians won four awards in the Bucks County Drama Festival. Senior year brought us face to face with planning for the future. For some of us, filling out college applications and taking SAT's were a major concern, while others were looking into jobs and other aspects of life after high school. This year also brought us some of the best times and memories. Among the news of the year was the recognition of National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists and the entertaining presentation of The Desk Set. The varsity soccer team had its best season ever, advancing to the state semi-finals. Girls' tennis also advanced further than ever before, reaching the Central Jersey Group IV finals. The Class of 1982 has left its mark on Central with its numerous headlines and achievements. As we graduate and go our separate ways, we can reflect on our past news, as we contribute to the news of the fu- ture. 55
