ECHO Central's faculty important True or false . . . . School news is a reflection of students' accomplishments and achievements. False. This definition is missing an extremely important aspect of school news - the faculty. People tend to overlook teachers' contribu- tions to the news. Most student news generates from the faculty, for teachers form the core of student activities. At the same time, the fac- ulty often makes news of its own. This year, a group of teachers made headlines when they partici- pated in the Corporate Run for the Heart. Although Central is not a typical corporation, they decided to form a team and ran to raise money for the American Heart Associ- ation. They also make news through coaching Central's numerous stu- dent athletes. This year, Coach Jen- nifer Spieker made a headline with her 100th career win in girls' gym- nastics. Coaches Larry Ries and Charlie Levis led the soccer team to the state semi-finals, while Coach Salayi led his girls to the Central Jersey Group IV tennis finals. Teachers are also at the core of Central's dramatics program. Each year, the plays make news with su- perb student performances. With- out the teachers' constant guidance fllzll in school news and support, however, the plays would not be as newsworthy. The faculty also inspires students' academic achievements. Students gain their knowledge and learning from teachers. The National Merit semi-finalists reflect the faculty's hard, persistant work. Without them, students could not excel aca- demically. Obviously, the opening definition is extremely inaccurate. The faculty is a major factor in school news. When one reads a school headline, he can be sure that teachers share in the news. 7 5 34 i ,,,,,.,,n-0'0 I ,r sl i f
